this is growing on me. i think, with the last album, i was hoping for another ta det lugnt, and i didn't get it. now, i'm not looking for another ta det lugnt, and i think this does me and the music a big favor. anyway, this album is way different than ta det lugnt and tio bitar. lots of piano. lots of swanky instrumentals. acid rock guitars aren't that prevalent, but they are there and they sound nice. and one of those tracks is an edited live acid jam. all the songs are four minutes+ or less. very mellow. new drummer is way up front. one nice allman brothers-esque instrumental that i dig and if they played it live for 30 minutes i wouldn't complain.

I liked the last one a bit better than Ta Det Lugnt but both are ace. Looking forward to this.

Yeah, I loved Tio Bitar, and I'm really intrigued by the new, slightly mellower direction. Can't wait to hear it.
― A. Begrand, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 01:13 (seventeen years ago)
I definitely need to hear this. I concur on Tio Bitar - the first album came out of nowhere for me. Since I wasn't looking to place it with weird 60s acrid rock, I took Ta Det Lungt on its own and thought it beautiful. The 2nd seemed a bit too Jimi Hendrix for me, but that's because I knew the direction they were going after the first album. I'm sure I'd love it more today, and I can't wait for the next one. I might buy it tonight.

― Everything is Highlighted (Hurting 2), Saturday, 11 October 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)
It's good, isn't it? I've only listened through completely once or twice, but I feel it will be getting more attention soon.

I think this is a great album and will appeal to those who have been following the whole reissue psych craze in the last few years, especially the Turkish/Scandinavian aspect of it. I am surprised it hasn't received more love on here. I'm working on a longish piece about this record and Dungen in general for a Euro mag. Anyways, I think it's a slow burner record but overall I think it will get more play than Tio Bitar did.

Excellent album, one of the best records I've heard this year. Only downside = just 37 minutes. If you want a sampler, just did a review here with 2 tracks and a live video found around the net.
― mersenne_twister, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:20 (seventeen years ago)
A record being approximately 40 minutes is no downside at all.We have this at the radio station, I need to check it out.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)
The first track is a great slow-burner.
― disdick (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)
I love it too (especially the ones that sound a bit like Vince Guaraldi). And the drumming is some of the best I've heard in a while.

Saw these guys in Toronto last night. They were in a great mood and put on a fantastic show—I appreciate the new material a lot more having heard it in person.
Love the new record.

I really like it. The sound is very rich, very lush. I only wish there were less filler tracks.
Anybody care to recommend anything remotely similar, sound-wise, to this particular album?
― Moka, Saturday, 1 November 2008 21:41 (seventeen years ago)
A lot of the record is too jammy and outtakey for me on further listening, but I love the first track.

fredtag is my favorite off this
― oscar, Sunday, 2 November 2008 03:29 (seventeen years ago)
The new one is "out." It's really fucking great. Super mellow, less psych-y, but it works.
― SourPatchCorpse, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 23:08 (fifteen years ago)
by "out," you mean (a) commercially released or (b) something more than "not out" and less than "commercially released."

?
I'm "listening" to this now. Very nice.
― Millsner, Thursday, 2 September 2010 00:08 (fifteen years ago)
defintely super-mellow. "soda" sounds like the second coming of elliott smith
― kamerad, Thursday, 2 September 2010 00:35 (fifteen years ago)
Daniel, I just meant that it leaked. And, I have to say, this record is really doing it for me right. It's pretty great. Especially combined with the "green", if ya know what I mean.
― SourPatchCorpse, Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)
doing it for me right now soooorrry
― SourPatchCorpse, Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:12 (fifteen years ago)
nice to know they have new stuff coming out.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)
I know this band is relatively popular, but I always felt they should be bigger. This new one is awesome stuff.
― SourPatchCorpse, Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:39 (fifteen years ago)
I find myself always trying to persuade my co-worker from Gothenburg that Dungen are great. He's a huge evangelist for Swedish music in general, but seems to regard Dungen as a shower of boggers/mucksavages making a decent attempt at playing dreadfully uncool music. I'm a Hendrix nut who's been on a jazz binge for the last few years, so you can probably tell what my opinion is.
― Veðrafjǫrðr heimamaður (ecuador_with_a_c), Thursday, 2 September 2010 04:58 (fifteen years ago)
Seeing them live back when "4" came out was tremendous fun. I'll give the new one a closer listen tonight. Seems low-key but full of subtle surprises.
