my vote is for james blunt

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

"Bad Day" is tuneless while "You're Beautiful" is just overplayed.

Daniel Powter is insufferably while James Blunt is just a bad David Gray copy.

So "Bad Day" all the way.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:22 (seventeen years ago)

"Bad Day" has those anthemic choruses and that step up at the end and that arena-pop production, and to me is just so much more garish and awful than "You're Beautiful".

"Bad Day" is way, way down there with "Rockabye" and "Pepper".

Eazy, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:27 (seventeen years ago)

anything released by Bon Jovi in the last 5 years wins hands down.

or arguably most of his career....

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:29 (seventeen years ago)

"always" is the worst Bon Jovi song by a country mile

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:30 (seventeen years ago)

OTM

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:31 (seventeen years ago)

but You're Beautiful is FAR FAR FAR WORSE!

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:32 (seventeen years ago)

for a while I didn't realize they weren't the same song ("Bad Day" and "You're Beautiful")...I actually thought the chorus of you're beautiful was the pre-chorus to Bad Day

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:33 (seventeen years ago)

BAD DAY wins this poll, which isn't to say that the blunt song isn't godawful

omar little, Thursday, 17 July 2008 01:34 (seventeen years ago)

Powter isn't as much of an insufferable arrogant self loathing dick like Blunt and Beautiful is shit, the lyrics are crap and the vid was shit. This is not to say this wasn't the case with Powter I just really hate Blunt.

VeronaInTheClub, Thursday, 17 July 2008 02:06 (seventeen years ago)

That's the spirit. Is this gonna come down to a USA vs UK thing? Blunt seems to be more hated by brits so far.

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 17 July 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

"Bad Day" is way, way down there with "Rockabye" and "Pepper".

this better not be the "Pepper" I think it is

bernard snowy, Thursday, 17 July 2008 02:19 (seventeen years ago)

also "You're Beautiful" was awful but at least it came and went; I'm pretty sure "Bad Day" will be used in reality TV shows and at sporting events until the end of time.

bernard snowy, Thursday, 17 July 2008 02:25 (seventeen years ago)

(shrugs) I dunno, I don't see what's so bad about either of those blandly semi-catchy songs - at least, within the microgenre of 21st-century AAA bland-rock. In fact, first time I heard "Bad Day"'s refrain, I thought it was a new Steely Dan track I hadn't heard yet! (Only 'cause I was (barely) hearing it over the radio inside a van full of people, which gobbled up a lot of the frequencies.)

I'll reserve the majority share of my loathing for the likes of Rob Thomas and John Mayer, thanks.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 17 July 2008 07:41 (seventeen years ago)

Blunty needed 'help' to write YB.

Mark G, Thursday, 17 July 2008 08:58 (seventeen years ago)

Powter isn't as much of an insufferable arrogant self loathing dick like Blunt

How would anyone know? No-one knows a fun fact about Daniel Powter... OR DO THEY?

'Bad Day' is worse.

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 17 July 2008 09:12 (seventeen years ago)

At least DPowter knows when to start singing!

Mark G, Thursday, 17 July 2008 09:45 (seventeen years ago)

At least DPowter doesn't think he's Jeff Buckley.

Mark G, Thursday, 17 July 2008 09:46 (seventeen years ago)

These records are both terrible and women who like them should be put into concentration camps and rohypnoled to within an inch of their lives!

Party Sausage, Thursday, 17 July 2008 09:51 (seventeen years ago)

These records are both terrible and women who like them should be put into concentration camps and rohypnoled to within an inch of their lives!

This is disgusting.

James Blunt, that song was bloody everywhere :(

hyggeligt, Thursday, 17 July 2008 10:02 (seventeen years ago)

This is really, really hard. I'm doing eeny, meeny, miney, moe on this one.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:34 (seventeen years ago)

Actually, "You're Beautiful" reminded me, more than anything, of that fucking "Superman" song from a few years back. That one, I really hated, and was force-fed it at work everyday for a year. And when I'd decided that I couldn't possibly despise it more, I discovered that the performer called himself "Five For Fighting" and realized that I was mistaken.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 17 July 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

Bad Day at the moment cos it always seems to be played on telly.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 17 July 2008 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Thursday, 17 July 2008 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

Powter by miles. 'You're Beautiful' is an abomination, 'Bad Day' is just a bit shit.

blueski, Thursday, 17 July 2008 15:34 (seventeen years ago)

oh shit that means i voted for DP not JB

blueski, Thursday, 17 July 2008 15:35 (seventeen years ago)

"You're Beautiful" is much worse.

o. nate, Thursday, 17 July 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

People who hate these records are well cool and hard.

Matt DC, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

Butthole's "Pepper"? That was pretty bad, yeah.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

I don't hate "Bad Day" actually.

o. nate, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)

Also, man, I got so fed up with "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" when it was #1. His guitar wasn't even plugged in!

That Alanis Morissette song, Ironic, I mean, it takes until the third verse before there's any actual irony in there at all! Note to Americans - a black fly in your Chardonnay is NOT IRONIC!

Matt DC, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

America thanks you for that breaking news, Matt.

Paul in Santa Cruz, Thursday, 17 July 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

The Butts' "Pepper" is sick. That whole album is great actually.

Has the 2000's not produced more "worst song ever"s than any other decade, or am I crazy? I can take it if I'm crazy.. just let me know.

billstevejim, Friday, 18 July 2008 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

you're beautiful is comically, enjoyably awful, while bad day is just baaaaaad.

went with bad day as the worst

abanana, Friday, 18 July 2008 04:22 (seventeen years ago)

You're Beautiful wins for it's smarm.

'My Life Is Brilliant.......My Life Is Brilliant...'

FUCK OFF

Mister Craig, Friday, 18 July 2008 05:55 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ The chorus is enjoyably dopey. I never listen to it on purpose, but find it stuck in my head a lot and not minding it, whereas the Blunt tune once makes me want to shriek.

The Reverend, Friday, 18 July 2008 06:27 (seventeen years ago)

once

The Reverend, Friday, 18 July 2008 06:27 (seventeen years ago)

Not enough james blunt hate here

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 18 July 2008 12:10 (seventeen years ago)

blunt by several million miles.

there.

CharlieNo4, Friday, 18 July 2008 12:42 (seventeen years ago)

Funny Alanis should be mentioned, because John Mayer's gawdawful "Say" (FAR worse than either of the songs being polled, oh yes it is) has got to be the most ironically (and idiotically) accidentally-meta-song since "Ironic" itself. Guy doesn't seem aware of the contradiction between advising someone to "Say what you need to say" - and then needlessly repeating it 837 fucking times before the song mercifully ends! Pot, meet kettle etc.

OOTH, maybe I'm wrong and he was fully aware of the inherent contradiction when he wrote/recorded the song; in which case, so what? Song's still crap.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 18 July 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

never heard of it. has it been released in the uk?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 18 July 2008 14:30 (seventeen years ago)

both songs r fuckin hideous id rather take a shower with dan rather than listen to them

Pooping Christ, Friday, 18 July 2008 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

Beautiful is worse.

Fuel's Bad Day is worse than Powter's actually.

Pepper is one of the best radio singles of the 90s.

Worst song ever = "All For Love" by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting.

Drugs A. Money, Friday, 18 July 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

never heard of it. has it been released in the uk?

Hm, apparently not, according to Wikipedia. Or I misread it and it was released but didn't chart. Either way, I'm envious!

Another irritating factor: He mewls "Say what you need to say" a full 42 2/3 times - once every 5.5 seconds (yeah, I do my research!) - and yet still chooses to merely title it "Say", as though it were still 1993 and post-grunge one-word song titles were still hip. Jesus...

Myonga Vön Bontee, Saturday, 19 July 2008 05:36 (seventeen years ago)

that reminds me of the one Dave Matthews Band song where he repeats "so much to say" about twenty times in a row. as a kid, I remember picking up on the irony of that and realizing for the first time that I was smarter than Dave Matthews. nowadays, I suppose the irony was probably intentional; but I'm still pretty sure I'm smarter than Dave Matthews.

bernard snowy, Monday, 21 July 2008 11:00 (seventeen years ago)

Is this gonna come down to a USA vs UK thing?

For what it's worth, Powter's Canadian.

hoovfact, Monday, 21 July 2008 11:03 (seventeen years ago)

I was talking about that it seems the usa posters hate powter more while uk ones seem to hate blunt more.

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 21 July 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)

"Bad Day" is an adequate song, never understood the hate for it. So Blunt it is. I've never actually heard the entirety of "YB" but the chorus alone has ensured it a place in the pop Hall of Infamy.

Jeff W, Monday, 21 July 2008 11:20 (seventeen years ago)

And yes, I'm in UK.

See, "You're Beautiful" is like sitting on an airplane and hearing the guy behind you successfully picking up the woman sitting next to him with bad lines, whereas "Bad Day" is...I mean, it's really...it's just bad.

Eazy, Friday, 23 January 2009 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

OK, he's buying a new house someplace.

James Blunt's house vs. Daniel Powter's house.
