I'm on a few music lists, of one sort and another. This came through on an old soul list:
Hello. I am posting this here because the fine musician or musicians that this list is about is included in my list. I wanted to let you know that there is a petition to VH1 to ask them to run a show on VH1 or VH1 Classic featuring the newer "post 80s" (1990-2002) music made by the classic rock bands, which for the most part has been ignored by the music industry. Please read the petition, and sign it if you think that it is a good idea.
At the bottom of this message, I am listing a small sample of musical artists and bands from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s that have put out new music after the 1980s ended.
If such a show were to be created, I wouldn't be surprised if several more of the old favorites would come back (because they would know for a fact that there would be airtime for their new material).
I also wouldn't be surprised if such a show would help put these artists back in the mainstream, increasing their radio airplay.
The address to the petition is

Please forward this message on to as many people as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you very much.

I don't know about you, but if I a) had VH1 or VH1 Classic, b) imagined they'd pay any attention to such a petition, and c) gave a damn, I'd be starting a counter-petition. In case you couldn't be bothered, the list includes such neglected and under-exposed acts as Madonna and Will Smith (anyone remember them? Where are they now?), and George Harrison is listed twice. In case we've missed their hair, Britny Fox are on there. There are some good acts there, of course (including my all-time musical idol, Al Green), but how much of their '90s work do you want to sit through?
Obv most of these acts are no longer played because nobody is interested, and petitions don't change that. The depressing thing for me is that the first response (and only one so far) to this on that list was "I think your idea is a good one," which makes me want to leave that list.
