Sucks. Bored me to tears the two times I've seen her live. Her records might be good if you're into that quiet girly Cat Power stuff.

yeah, i'm into the girly stuff. i think it's quiet, passionate wtihout being cloying like kathryn williams. i think the productions on the songs are inventive without being over-the-top. sort of like gnac meets elliott smith and covers some joni mitchell. albini digs her and placed her on the all tomorrows parties bill.

I am into Cat Power and Joni Mitchell and find Kathryn Williams a little too claustrophobic. Any mp3s around by that girl?

four months pass...
Resurrecting this thread... I saw her live last night and she impressed, what I would think of as Mogwai as two women. But Maps of Tacit didn't seem as noisy as her show, so is it her later albums that I should check?

i'm pretty sure i was at the same show you were (Wed night?) and I agree, it was impressive (esp. in comparison with her opening slot for Dirty Three a couple years ago). But I was hopped up on cold medicine which could have added to the effect. I'm not sure if what was played this time was new material or not.

Boring and melodramatic, a bit too crunchy, and a voice like sour apples, a dull intestinal rumble, nice piano-light-correspondent-keys configurated display at ATP but dull as dusty dishwater. Dud, sorry doomie.

Corina Round (is that the name?) she's probly a more apt comparison point than Kathryn Williams. Corina Round but less noisy and more volume.

I saw her at the Siren Festival in Coney Island. Thought she sounded like Cher. I was into it for the first 5-10 minutes but the braying-garage-rock-banshee schtick didn't hold up for an entire set's worth of music. Good guitarist, though.

haha, Corina Round = shit Ryan Adams support act, but I enjoyed her a helluva lot more. And stay those comparisons away from Cat Power, please.

I've seen her twice. She reminded me a bit of Janis Joplin, especially her hair - the first time I saw her I don't think I ever saw her face. Her drummer kinda reminded me of one of the Slits. The music is okay, the Hendrix/Tori Amos onstage routine impressive but drags a bit after 20 minutes or so.

hmmph. well, i just saw her open for sleater-kinney and was quite impressed with her as a live performer. after listening a bit to her last two albums, it would seem that the power of the live set is not all there on the records. not that i think they are weak, it's just that she was rocking way harder on stage. i like stripped down music, this was just her and a drummer. her drummer was very good, i thought (and pretty too) i decided not to go to the second show on the following night, but will definitely look out for her in the future, and get her first album.
