Just saw them play to about 15 people (5 of which were opening band Grammar) in Madison. I like the first record a lot -- and I like the new thumpy-proggy sound just as much. Though some of what I like about the first record is gone -- the thoroughgoing hushedness, the way the syllables of the vocals are laid down very carefully in unexpected places.
I thought lots of people liked Takka Takka but the sparse turnout at this show made me wonder: am I alone here?

It's funny, my memory is that these guys were beneficiaries of a huge Pitchfork-launched hype wave, but Pitchfork didn't like their first record very much at all:

I guess this is true only in the second-order sense that they were friends of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, who DID get a Pitchfork boost.
Anyway, this still holds up better than most of its peer group.
