because few things in this world are as melancholy as (a) remembering those long-past days in the early 80s when you got yer first home PC as an x-mas present (it was a commodore) whilst listening to any song on this record; and (b) eating yer heart out whilst "computer love" plays in the background ;_;

Numbers - I like to dance..

mmmm, Saturday, 2 August 2008 10:40 (seventeen years ago)

The title track is the one that seems the most like a proper song here. So that one.

I keep hearing "Home Computer" in my head.

Bimble is a happy bimble which listens to this album.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 2 August 2008 10:56 (seventeen years ago)

This is one of those weird albums where pretty much every song is as good as every other song. Well apart from maybe Computer Love, but I think that'll walk it so I went for Home Computer for the evilness factor.

voted 'Numbers' for the all time classic beat

blueski, Saturday, 2 August 2008 12:26 (seventeen years ago)

"Pocket Calculator" because it's (intentionally) funny, and because even when they were goofing around they were still making better music than the majority of bands.

snoball, Saturday, 2 August 2008 13:10 (seventeen years ago)

The song that spawned electro vs. one of six other songs that did not spawn electro

Numbers ftw!

Stevie D, Saturday, 2 August 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

Computer Love, for it's melancholic beauty. And it sounds like a proper song to me.

I also like the Mix version, which I had heard first.

dan selzer, Saturday, 2 August 2008 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

"Computer Love" is soooo beautiful; it's got the brittle, wintry melancholy that Moroder and Phil Oakey would exploit for "Together in Electric Dreams."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 2 August 2008 14:43 (seventeen years ago)

Yes, I would like to think we all understand that Computer Love is the best Kraftwerk song ever (Grimly Fiendish will back me up here) but some people are just not in the know.

Every song is genuis, but for me Home Computer is the unsung hero of this album. What a bridge! Truly amazing.

moley, Sunday, 3 August 2008 07:07 (seventeen years ago)

Before I joined ILM, I didn't know how to spell the word genuis. Now, I are one.

moley, Sunday, 3 August 2008 07:08 (seventeen years ago)

if i let coldplay ruin my enjoyment of a kraftwerk song, the terrorists have won

NEED A RENDEZVOUS RENDEZVOUS

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 3 August 2008 12:44 (seventeen years ago)

This is clearly "Computer Love" vs the beat for "Numbers". I could listen to the first 30 seconds of "Numbers" on a continuous loop from now until forever, but "Computer Love" is the better song.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 3 August 2008 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

it's more fun to compute bangs so hard

m bison, Sunday, 3 August 2008 15:06 (seventeen years ago)

One of the 10 best albums of all time. As Hot Chocolate said, "Everyone's a winner," but I went with "Numbers."

inhibitionist, Sunday, 3 August 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)

what song am I singing: do-doo, do-doo, da-do-do-da-doo

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 3 August 2008 19:26 (seventeen years ago)

(i was just kidding re: coldplay, sorry guys)

stephen, Sunday, 3 August 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

There's not a bad track on this album -- it is one complete piece. But I'd have to go with the title track if pressed.

Alex in NYC, Monday, 4 August 2008 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

Computer Love. I listened to this album over and over on a discman outside a pool at a disney world resort several years back. I could definitely feel the love on Computer Love. Computer World is probably my second favorite. That same trip to disney world I really got into Amnesiac - I think it just came out.

CaptainLorax, Monday, 4 August 2008 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

ask me on the right day and this is my favourite album of all time. ask me on another and it's not even my favourite kraftwerk album (radio-activity will always have a very special place in my heart). right now, though -- coldly, dispassionately, thinking about this as a selection of astonishing pieces of work -- i'm leaning towards the former.

Yes, I would like to think we all understand that Computer Love is the best Kraftwerk song ever (Grimly Fiendish will back me up here)

yes, i will, and i don't think i'd ever argue otherwise. it is quite simply one of the most beautiful pieces of melancholy i've ever heard. i'd have been, what, six when i first heard it and i think a tiny but vital part of my temporal lobes is now wired to respond to it and nothing but. and the coda ... my god. it's electronic baroque.
