i would like for it to not be revealed because the music is mysterious sounding so, y'know, it would be nice for a little mythmaking to be allowed now and again. still.

well i never, first sniff of some major payola and the dudes on the self promo tip. thought he would keep the game alight right up until the Mercury party. guess some of his "mates" were falling for the tabloid pressure and he just wanted to beat them at their own game.

― mh, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)
i love that it's just some guy. it would seriously lame if it were fatboy slim or some other douchebag taking a fake name so he could be taken seriously, so much better that it's just a regular guy who didn't want people to know who he was
― n/a, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 18:17 (seventeen years ago)
^ what he said.
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 18:18 (seventeen years ago)
did anyone actually suspect that Burial was Fatboy Slim?
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)
^I'll wager at least a few people breathed a sigh of relief...

That picture of Chris Martin at the side of The Sun's story looks a lot like Tommy Boyd.
― James Mitchell, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 19:27 (seventeen years ago)
He kind of reminds me of a younger Thom Yorke on that photo.

He totally looks like a dubstep kid. I'm glad it wasn't GiGi D'Augustino.
― skygreenleopard, Friday, 8 August 2008 02:42 (seventeen years ago)
I'm bummed he unmasked himself. I prefer the mystery.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 8 August 2008 02:58 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, I just found out about the mystery a couple of weeks ago after I joined the bandwagon, got the album, then went searching for more, only to find out about this dark anonymous character dropping good albums.
This reminds me of a dream I had once about an old college professor studying rap anthropology who made a name for himself by rediscovering a West Coast rap collective from the mid-90s whose only output was lost among garage sales in South Central. He made a documentary devoted to finding them since they were known only by their rap aliases and disbanded in honor of one of the members who was shot and killed. I'm weird.

― elan, Friday, 8 August 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)
Well, mystery or not, Untrue is -- to me -- one of the best albums of the decade (since we're late into the naughties and about to start considering such lists).
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 8 August 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)
Heard someone claim that Burial sampled these drums for Archangel, or Prophecy. It's definitely the same pattern as the latter, but sounds more like an influence than a sample (maybe he grabbed just the rimclick sound though). Sick track anyway.
