Band equipment seems to get stolen an awful lot, doesn't it?
― Alex in SF, Monday, 4 August 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)
this is somehow symbolic
― Zeno, Monday, 4 August 2008 22:20 (seventeen years ago)
time for me to get on my soapbox again
bands who tour: I share your pain. I know how tired you are when you get to the hotel. I may not be as big as you-all, but I'm a working musician. And as such, I learned something (2nd hand through people who were related to famous people) when I was coming up: don't leave anything in the van that you couldn't stand to live without. I'm touring this fall; anybody who breaks into our bus when I'm not in it won't get shit that belongs to me, because my shit is right next to me when I'm sleeping, and anybody who wants it is gonna have to fight me for it.
Seriously, how many times do we have to hear this damn story? Watt, what're you doin leaving a '63 EB-3 in the van? It never got stolen before? Blind luck!
Load your shit out, bands!
That said, this sucks as and may the thieves all die painful slow deaths.
― J0hn D., Monday, 4 August 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)
Watt, what're you doin leaving a '63 EB-3 in the van?

Do these people ever get caught? I always wondered who'd be responsible, like, some broke gutter punks who thought they might cop some fine gear? fucked up junkies who'll flip it first thing? Jealous ex-bandmates? ithe Illuminati?
― people explosion, Monday, 4 August 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)
a few years ago there was a group with a (half-serious?) musical agenda that claimed they'd ripped off a bunch of bands they thought were shitty and were gonna hit some more... I'm sure its on ILM somewhere, I forget if they called themselves a particular name
― Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 4 August 2008 23:41 (seventeen years ago)
can somebody link to that manifesto from the people who claimed to be stealing the gear of bands they felt were declining in quality? I know it's on ILM somewhere.
GODDAMN XPOST AGAIN
― sleeve, Monday, 4 August 2008 23:41 (seventeen years ago)
All that gear to make that din?
Rest assured Igginsto and you multi millionares, it will wind up in some other chancer rock band's rehearsal room and praps ROCK will be changed forever by the ripping off of yr gear.
It will all turn out right. Or maybe you could write a song about it?
Yr insured right?
― Fer Ark, Monday, 4 August 2008 23:44 (seventeen years ago)
and some toilet ODs somewhere along the line.
Result

― Fer Ark, Monday, 4 August 2008 23:55 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, or somebody sleeps in the van. sucks, but the hartbraek winner of all time has to be when sonic youth had 25+ custom guitars stolen.

― m coleman, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 03:42 (seventeen years ago)
^ Admittedly -I was being a dick- for the theft of Mike Watt's bass only.
It sucks too that I can't say, leave my bike around anywhere on the fucking planet without shrouding it in a two ft thick uberchain. Having my car broken into for the tenth time was real fun though .
Scrotes everywhere - not just Canada. There's even some in quaint ole Englande

They didn't know about the Neighborhood Threat, left their stuff Down on the Street and it got stolen in Some Weird Sin by a couple of Dum Dum Boys, eh? And now all they Got Nothing except some pictures, like Consolation Prizes. I bet they feel like Dirt now. Not Right. Not Right at all.
― StanM, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

C'mon Stan M, you coulda easily worked "Search & Destroy" and "Scene of the Crime" into that summation if you wanted to! Unless you considered it too easy...
4x-post

I gave up after I realized it wasn't going to be as funny as it initially promised to be :-(

At least Ron Asheton plays relatively cheap made-in-Korea gear. I'm sure Reverend will happily ship him a new set of $550 guitars just for the publicity. (I think that V is his signature model, no?)
