i love this box set as well, almost as good as the original.

i think it's going to the Small Faces but going to dig this out before voting.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:27 (seventeen years ago)

bow bow bada-bow

balls, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

This is the best disc in probably the entire series.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:35 (seventeen years ago)

A good case can be made that any one of half of these tracks is the best.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)

I don't have this one - I know at least half these songs tho

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:40 (seventeen years ago)

I kinda wanna give it to My White Bicycle, which has probably my favorite backwards drum track ever

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:40 (seventeen years ago)

That's a great track. The first seven tracks are a seriously untouchable sequence.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:46 (seventeen years ago)

damn, this is going to be hard. i'm totally leaning towards the move, but i've been on a move kick lately.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 00:47 (seventeen years ago)

This is difficult only because my two favorite songs on the box are both on disc three (Idle Race and John's Children). So Idle Race here.

Wow they really front loaded this one with some motherfuckers although the Action cut is weak and The Eyes are slightly overrated. But The La De Das damn near outclassed the Stones.

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 01:26 (seventeen years ago)

Has this box got a more accurate title? 'Cause the first one specified 1965-69 yet contained "Louie Louie" from '63...reminds me of The Coasters' 50 Coastin' Classics, which contains 51 songs.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 01:45 (seventeen years ago)

mud in your fuckin eye

electricsound, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

"My Friend Jack" fuck yeah

Euler, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 02:53 (seventeen years ago)

It's not as psych as the others, but the Tages track stands out as something special.

Bob Six, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 06:48 (seventeen years ago)

When The Night Falls - The Eyes

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 07:52 (seventeen years ago)

Myonga, title of the first box matches that of the original LP. Good call on the Coasters, haha!

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 07:59 (seventeen years ago)

Wonderful collection of songs, even though I would have preferred a different context than the mono-biased Nuggets one.

These would all deserve my vote:

3. I Can Hear The Grass Grow - The Move
4. My Friend Jack - The Smoke
5. My White Bicycle - Tomorrow
69. Imposters Of Life's Magazine - The Idle Race
21. My Mind's Eye - The Small Faces
27. I Read You Like An Open Book - The Tages

Going for Tages because they were fantastic, and because they probably don't receive a lot of other votes. Idle Race are also heavily underrated, but that song was not their best by any means.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 13:40 (seventeen years ago)

My head's attracted to a magnetic wave of sound...

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 13:54 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's "My White Bicycle" for me.

A band I was once in, I tried to get them to do a cover but changing the words to "My Wife's Bisexual", but the singer wouldn't do it.

zeus, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 14:13 (seventeen years ago)

making time

69, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 14:56 (seventeen years ago)

It's difficult to argue with classic status being conferred on any of the first five cuts. My sleeper pick is #11 - Les Fleur De Lys with a gorgeous track.

zaxxon25, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

I love the Los Bravos track, could easily be mistaken for a Northern Soul classic.

The Move, The Pretty Things, The Eyes also in contention for my vote.

bidfurd, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

Tossup between "My Friend Jack" and "I See The Rain"

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 7 August 2008 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

Our musi is red with purple flashes.

hoping for a dada post in this thread.

re-listening to this made me realize that Alex in SF is OTM regarding the first few songs on this CD and that this is the best Nuggets CD in this whole collection.

this is impossible to pick but almost went with "The First Cut Is The Deepest." but stuck with my original pick from the Small Faces. so glad songs like "Imposters Of Life's Magazine" "How Is the Air Up There?" and "Mud In Your Eye" gets some love.

Bee OK, Friday, 8 August 2008 04:09 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 9 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

I See the Rain.

clotpoll, Sunday, 10 August 2008 04:15 (seventeen years ago)

Killer Freakbeat all the way with through this box, but 'Father's Name is Dad' edges 'Making Time' by a fraction.

Soukesian, Sunday, 10 August 2008 10:55 (seventeen years ago)

"Father's Name"

bye.

Mark G, Sunday, 10 August 2008 13:32 (seventeen years ago)

I made a tape copy of this comp one summer when I was delivering magazines, and I remember being so happy every time the deck in the car reversed and Makin' Time came back on because it meant that I had that whole side to look forward to again (except White Bicycle, which I never really liked).

I eat cannibals, Sunday, 10 August 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

24. War Or Hands Of Time - The Masters Apprentices

if you didnt listen to this song - do it now or forever hold yr speech

Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 18:50 (seventeen years ago)

The Move - Grass etc.. - another classic

Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 18:51 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 10 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

While I love the Creation track, I can't help but think this result is ever so slightly disappointing.

Alex in SF, Sunday, 10 August 2008 23:08 (seventeen years ago)

Would not really argue for any of the tracks that didn't get a vote although Kaleidoscope, Action, Sorrows, Koobas songs are all quite good.

Alex in SF, Sunday, 10 August 2008 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'd swap the Easybeat for the Tomorrow, and then this poll would pretty accurately reflect my personal preferences.

I WIN ILX

I eat cannibals, Monday, 11 August 2008 00:20 (seventeen years ago)

more!

Mark G, Monday, 11 August 2008 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

Missed this one, vacation last week, would've just been part of the pile-on for the Creation though. Killer comp, and in keeping with the spirit of these bands Rhino put their best foot forward first and use it to kick your ass straightaway.

dad a, Monday, 11 August 2008 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

Will this series take in "Children of Nug" or is that too notfarenoughreaching?

Mark G, Monday, 11 August 2008 15:31 (seventeen years ago)

Will this series take in "Children of Nug" or is that too notfarenoughreaching?

probably but we will see, San Francisco Nuggets is III, i will see how that goes and do Children: Nuggets IV after that if the votes are there. since Have a Nice Decade is almost over i'm going to go down that path and have some great things planned if no-one else does them first.

Bee OK, Monday, 11 August 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

good job as always, ILM, and hope the next three volumes from this series are as much fun.

Bee OK, Monday, 11 August 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

Haha they aren't, but they are all good.

Alex in SF, Monday, 11 August 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

seven years pass...

The Nuggets II box is absolutely a worthy successor to the first volume - I got weeks of listening out of it when I shelled out for it as a college sophomore - but it's frontloaded as fuck; this is the best disc by miles.

This is the best disc in probably the entire series.

― Alex in SF, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 5:35 PM (7 years ago)

OTM

A good case can be made that any one of half of these tracks is the best.

― Alex in SF, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 5:36 PM (7 years ago)

Also OTM, but "I Read You Like an Open Book" and "War or Hands of Time" are the bestest. "I Can Hear the Grass Grow" is almost as great.

Futuristic Bow Wow (thewufs), Tuesday, 10 May 2016 07:26 (nine years ago)

i have not listened to this probably since this poll. good time to pull this out.
