the least of her albums but 'criminal' sounds even more classic now than when it came out

akm, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

I listened to it quite a lot when it came out. I remember hearing it a lot in hipster dives and cafes in Austin along the usual MC5 and ATDI and stuff.

Fave track: Sullen Girl

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

neither, but her other two albums are classic.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Criminal is strong. I taped the video, but a wanko will do that. xp

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

this whole album is amazing.

the tranquil parts especially. slow like honey, heavy with mood.

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

good thread thx.

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

I knew you'd show! =)

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

adagio breezes fill my skin with sudden red
your hungry flirt borders intrusion
and i'm building memories on things
we have not said

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

:)

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

Hey, the lyrics are like Sub-Jewel at points but srsly, is why is that a bad thing... It all works, very affecting.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

shadowboxer is definitely a masterpiece

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

even tho the masterpiece title surely goes to never is a promise, probably the best teen ballad tearjerker of my time

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

Beautiful song! Kind of incoherent, again, lyrically, well at least to me.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

But as the scenery grows, I see in different lights
The shades and shadows undulate in my perception
My feelings swell and stretch; I see from greater heights
I understand what I am still too proud to mention - to you

the vox on that are sooo pretty

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:48 (seventeen years ago)

also sleep to dream is perfection

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

agreed. Looking at the track listing, the only song I can't recall is Carrion.

And The First Taste is sexee.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

it is. carrion is actually a highlight for me. that dusty shuffling beat and her cooing.

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

hello sophomore year of high school. i think i listened to this album about 3,000 times.

i got my feet on the ground, and i don't go to sleep to dream
you got your head in the clouds, you're not at all what you seem.

oh, fiona. classic. everything she's done is classic.

Emily Bjurnhjam, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

Shadowboxing is so perfect.

Tape Store, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

Also Shadowboxer

Tape Store, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

Severely underrated album. Pale September is simply beautiful in a way that very few songs are.

Melissa W, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

YES

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

it kind of encapsulates the mood. beautiful.

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

"Criminal" always reminds me of John Lennon's self-loathing songs. The melody, the lyrics, the hammering piano. Very classic. Could be covered to interesting effect.

bendy, Thursday, 7 August 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

The shades and shadows undulate in my perception

Terrible line in a good song.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 7 August 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

All her albums are classic, thought this one is not quite as megaclassic as the other two.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 7 August 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

her best album

i fake it so real, i am beyonce (surm), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 05:13 (fifteen years ago)

perfectly natural, and dark. drunk like the tides of a beach beneath a gray sky.
