Why not. "Jokerman," obviously: the Sly-Robbie riddims and one of his best ever vocal performances. Runners-up: "I & I" and "Sweetheart Like You." The rest is crap.

"I and I." I have a certain fondness for "Neighborhood Bully," but man, those lyrics.

License To Kill

"Sweetheart Like You". But the answer ought to have been "Blind Willie McTell"

I had no interest in reporting a well-documented back story.

"Jokerman", what a lyric.

Great performance of "License to Kill" on Letterman:

The performance of "Don't Start Me Talkin" on that show is one of my favorite Dylan moments.

the "jokerman" from letterman is awesome too. that might be Dylan's best live TV appearance.
this is sweet too

i do love "don't fall apart on me tonight" -- dylan at his slo jam smoothest.
"come over here from over there, girl"
think i'll vote for jokerman though. nothing else like that song in dylan's career -- or anyone else's for that matter.

"jokerman" is the clear winner but i voted for "sweetheart like you" to keep things interesting.

A vote for "Jokerman" with not much commitment behind it (the vote, that is).

nothing else like that song in dylan's career -- or anyone else's for that matter.

Really? Care to elaborate on the latter claim? The melody is nice. But for an outsider take on reggae I much prefer Funkadelic's from two years before.

Also can anyone explain how Dylan equates "Jews with Zionists with the Likud?" I'm assuming it happens on "Neighborhood Bully" but I can't figure out where.

And while you're at it, what is "ital Hasidism?" I know what each word means. But not what they mean together.

The politics here are pretty stupid. "Jokerman" remains a highlight of his fire-and-brimstone phase.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 16 August 2008 01:28 (seventeen years ago)

"Jokerman", though "Sweetheart Like You" and "License to Kill" are also excellent songs.
