fonky family: the french wu-tang

I've been listening to Si Dieu Veut... pretty much nonstop lately, dudes rip it over RZA-style beats w/film score string samples and whatnot. Song titles suggest they're pretty political, but apparently they're mainly gunplay? Dunno. Don't speak a word of French.

Anybody else dig these guys?

I had a single they did with Akhenaton about 12 years ago which had a cool Sabotage-style video, but I can't remember what it was called and it didn't seem very Wu-Tang to me. It may have been Bad Boys de Marseille. There was a band plastered all over late-night French telly in those days whose videos had an obvious influence - gothic beats, hooded robes, chessboards - but I hadn't heard Wu-Tang in those days so it all just seemed pretty cool and alien. I suspect this would have been IAM rather than Fonky Family.

So I guess the answer to your question is ... not really
