the best part about trans-europe express is the drum machine parts where it changes pitch

so what I am asking is a) are their other records like this because if not then why the hell not, and b) why don't more people use this?

the best part about trans europe express is "bass rock express."

(oh, me so horny.)

jess, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so they hadn't even heard of "me so horny"??

Josh, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Weren't they influenced by the roads?

nathalie, Sunday, 12 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never been on a road that CHANGED PITCH like that!

and yeah blah blah doppler effect but really

Van Halen do it in "Romeo Delight", which is also notable for the Keith Rowe-like 'percussive pickup magnet' solo

What about Metalheads 'Terminator' and other jungle timestretch pitchshifters?

Do you mean where it changes from a drum beat to a clean, pulsating note? If so, the nearest thing I can think of is (believe it or not) Neil Diamond's Cherry Cherry, where the acoustic guitar takes over the piano riff when the chorus starts - brilliant!

Trans-Europe Express about trains, surely? Autobahn is about roads

That "Yellow Train" song off 'The Loft'

duh! Kraftwerk's genius was that you could take any 8 bars of their total musical output and make an entire genre of electronic music out of it. The other part of their genius is that any 8 bars of their total recorded output makes people ask "why can't I buy 50 more records just like this?"

I believe that the effect you are talking about is a really subtle flanging effect.
