Morrisey meet Neneh Cherry I read according to some wag at Plan B? Nah, more like The Knife meet M.I.A but what says you on the latest hype?

The single 'On my own again' is good but it's the b-side 'Shake' which is the real winner, sharp sassy lyrics over a spongy electro groove, just a shame that we haven't had the Summer it's deserved.

'there's a mother in our bed' is great!!

Didn't know she had a thread here! I would've been reviving it from time to time whenever a new song leaked out last year and this year.
Any news on the lp?

sez on her myspace that she's still recording for it..

Bah, it's said that for forever.

That remix of I'm Not Sorry that's going around is one of my favourite songs of the year. I love her. Need more stuff.

"On My Own" is easily my favorite thing she's done; it's also probably my favorite Metronomy production since like 2006

I think this is the best thing she's done and has wetted my appetite for the album.

I haven't been into any of the new material, but especially Asthma Attack. Sonically, it's custom made for me, but it just seems flat.

Yeah, I want to like all this newer stuff more than I actually do. It's a shame to think she's spent so long working on this album when her original ideas and tracks were probably better. It's not bad at all though, I just expect more.

Same here. New stuff is disappointing. What can you do?

I didn't like it at first, but some of the songs are growers, despite lyrics that would make Morissey cringe.

despite lyrics that would make Morissey cringe
That's definitely the biggest obstacle. As a person who normally doesn't pay much attention to lyrics and their meaning, the fact that some of these jump out at me as being atrocious really speaks to how atrocious they are.
But on top of that, most the music itself is like leftover Ellie Goulding scraps.

Is this really the only CocknBullKid thread? I love the album, one of my favourites so far this year. I like the Morrissey-esque lyrics too, I probably wouldn't if they were sung by some dull guitar band but it's an interestingly incongruous thing in urban pop music.
Also her voice is utterly lovely.
― Leonard Pine, Sunday, 26 June 2011 07:33 (fourteen years ago)
It's not really what I would call "urban pop music" though, is it? It's just bland pop music. The drop-off in quality since 2009 is quite amazing to me. Her whole look is awful now too. And obviously she has the worst name ever. Not to be too negative - I loved Shake and I'm Not Sorry but this stuff is really boring.
