Even pre-Britpop, there are lots of gems on this first CD. My vote goes to The Cure, but really great contributions from The Smiths, Stone Roses, Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, Trash Can Sinatras and La's too.

Looks like I am really struggling to make the code appear correct to show images today.

Why have you made this poll?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

how many discs/polls are there for this?

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

Where the fuck Is Earl Brutus????

Disgusting...

Fer Ark, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:45 (seventeen years ago)

You've missed Hood too and Dumpy's Rusty Nuts

Fer Ark, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

Geir you are stealing all of my future polls, guess i can't have all the fun. i suggest doing only one poll a week though.

"Just Like Heaven" is the best of these great songs.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

I just saw this compilation the other day. Not bad at all, I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

daavid, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

My vote goes to the Happy Mondays on this one.

daavid, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

somewhere in china, but obscurity knocks came close

electricsound, Thursday, 14 August 2008 00:20 (seventeen years ago)

"Obscurity Knocks" was my pick, having voted for The Sundays in the other Geir poll. I wanna mix it up a little.

DavidM, Thursday, 14 August 2008 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

That should be "Primitive Painters" for the Felt song surely? I'd choose that one.

Neil S, Thursday, 14 August 2008 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

Something about this list makes me think "SOME TRACKS HAVE BEEN RE-RECORDED BY ONE OR MORE OF THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS FOR ENHANCED SOUND QUALITY."

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 14 August 2008 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

It's one of the tracks featuring Liz Fraser that is the winner in my book. Not sure which one

Fer Ark, Thursday, 14 August 2008 16:46 (seventeen years ago)

Yes- that should read Primitive Painters

Fer Ark, Thursday, 14 August 2008 16:46 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

As an actual Brit, this poll seems like a sort of "Choose the best industrial midlands town: Bedford, Northampton, Wellingborough, Corby, Luton, Peterborough, Rugby, Coventry, Milton Keynes, Huntingdon" type thang.

Which is to say, it's a poll of the second or third best.

PhilK, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure Geir would pick Peterborough.

PhilK, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

The Cure. But if it had been Safety Net by the Shop Assistants...

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 21 August 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 21 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

predictable winner

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 21 August 2008 23:19 (seventeen years ago)

Inspiral Carpets didn't get a vote, maybe grimly didn't see this poll..

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 22 August 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

I'd say "Crash" was the minor surprise. The rest of the Top 4 was pretty much predictable.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:41 (seventeen years ago)

Who was the other person who voted for Rugby? ;-)

Masonic Boom, Saturday, 23 August 2008 11:16 (seventeen years ago)

have a guess

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 23 August 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

It was either you or Elvis Telecom!
