Even pre-Britpop, there are lots of gems on this first CD. My vote goes to The Cure, but really great contributions from The Smiths, Stone Roses, Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, Trash Can Sinatras and La's too.

As an actual Brit, this poll seems like a sort of "Choose the best industrial midlands town: Bedford, Northampton, Wellingborough, Corby, Luton, Peterborough, Rugby, Coventry, Milton Keynes, Huntingdon" type thang.
