is it just me or is radio R&B kind of especially awesome this year.

some dude, Friday, 15 August 2008 03:54 (seventeen years ago)

is it crazy that ne-yo is @ #10 on the hot 100 but #26 on this list?

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 03:55 (seventeen years ago)

yeah radio r&b has been really good

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

it's a little weird but if any Ne-Yo song was ever gonna do better on the Pop 100 and Top 40 charts than on R&B charts it's "Closer." seems like urban stations are already latching onto "Miss Independent" as the song they're gonna play the hell out of.

some dude, Friday, 15 August 2008 04:36 (seventeen years ago)

I keep expecting it to be a cover of the Kelly Clarkson song.

The Reverend, Friday, 15 August 2008 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

1. jazmine sullivan - need u bad
2. slim & yung joc - so fly
3. alicia keys - teenage love affair
4. lloyd - girls around the world
5. noel gourdin - the river
6. thicke - magic
7. keysh - heaven sent
8. ryan leslie - addiction
9. jeezy & kanye - put on
10. j. hud - spotlight

"music for love" and that eric benet song are up there as well (enjoying an eric benet song in 2008? whodathunkit?) and of course keri "enery" and keysh "I remember" and the remix of that pleasure p song with teirra mari is great too.

this has been an excellent year for r&b in general, not just radio r&b

The Brainwasher, Friday, 15 August 2008 05:24 (seventeen years ago)

bottom 5 :

1. rihanna - take a bow
2. t.i. - whatever you like
3. alicia keys - superwoman
4. plies & ne-yo - bust it baby
5. lyfe - never never land

The Brainwasher, Friday, 15 August 2008 05:27 (seventeen years ago)

take a bow is def the worst of the ones that ive heard

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

maybe that yung berg thing

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 05:29 (seventeen years ago)

"Take a Bow" is fine/ The worst is one of these two:

8. David Banner ft. Chris Brown, "Get Like Me"
9. Officer Ross ft. Nelly & Avery Storm, "Here I Am"

The Reverend, Friday, 15 August 2008 05:30 (seventeen years ago)

i actually enjoy the yung berg song if you ignore yung berg

The Brainwasher, Friday, 15 August 2008 05:31 (seventeen years ago)

whats so bad about "get like me".. the beat is crazy

The Brainwasher, Friday, 15 August 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

9. Ne-Yo, "Closer"
10. Jennifer Hudson, "Spotlight"

Tape Store, Friday, 15 August 2008 05:43 (seventeen years ago)

yeah once i got over the fact that supposed super genius classic album maker david banner was sampling yung joc for a chorus (and realized that the chorus is awesome) , i started to really like it. beat is crazy. also, im totally in favor of chris brown guest verses

"here i am" as i said when i bumped the officer ross thread, is a total radio jam to me. don't remember thinking anything of it when listening to the album (except how bad nelly's verse was) but i love the beat mostly, and as ive said on here before, ross sounds really good on fast beats cuz it doesn't usually allow him to get lazy and fall back into the rhyming/repeating same word thing

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 05:43 (seventeen years ago)

also nothing on the radio right now is bringing more lols than

"she used to fight with her moms
till i sat em both down
now she tight with her moms
WHUUUUUUUUUUT"

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 05:46 (seventeen years ago)

top 10:

1. put on
2. girls around the world
3. a milli
4. need u bad
5. closer
6. out here grindin'
7. i'll be lovin' u long time
8. spotlight
9. got money
10. like you'll never see me again
11. get like me
12. whatever you like
13. donk
14. just fine
15. mr carter
16. baby
17. i luv your girl
18. energy

lex pretend, Friday, 15 August 2008 09:22 (seventeen years ago)

the worst of the ones i've heard is definitely 'moving mountains'.

'got money' is really underrated, sure the beat is pop-cheesy and you've got t-pain in the chorus AGAIN but weezy rides it pretty nimbly, something's constantly piquing your interest (handclaps, "i'm a great dane", umbrella riffing &c)

lex pretend, Friday, 15 August 2008 09:37 (seventeen years ago)

also i've only heard 'whatever you like' once and i think i love it lots, but i was too distracted by how fiiiiine t.i. is in the video. those fucking cheekbones.

lex pretend, Friday, 15 August 2008 09:37 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i was a pretty vocal "got money" hater but i kind of love it now. you're otm about all the weird tics running through it (i'd throw my favorite, the clock ticking part, in there) and for an obvious wayne radio single it's got decent rapping, esp. the third verse ("so much ice they yell SKATE WAYNE")

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 09:39 (seventeen years ago)

also conjures up images of wayne being in a club and pretending to skate and/or wayne actually ice skating, so its a win-win really

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 09:40 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, so many tics like TIC-TIC

in the video it kind of looks like he's doing a skating move at when point? or maybe just skipping. mack maine's verse isn't bad but really when weezy's own third verse was as good as it is, why replace it

lex pretend, Friday, 15 August 2008 09:43 (seventeen years ago)

at one point, wtf

lex pretend, Friday, 15 August 2008 09:44 (seventeen years ago)

just so he could say "mack maine on them hoes"

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 09:45 (seventeen years ago)

i hope

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 09:45 (seventeen years ago)

as for "whatever you like", t.i.'s always been pretty melodic, so i'm not surprised the song where he basically half-sings the whole time is pretty good

his half-singing about romance is better than his raps nowadays anyway

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080619113713AA3e3TE

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 09:53 (seventeen years ago)

last thing before i go to sleep:

why in "whatever you like" does t.i. say "let me put this dick boy in yo life"

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 09:56 (seventeen years ago)

i thought it was "big boy", or was that the clean version?

lex pretend, Friday, 15 August 2008 10:05 (seventeen years ago)

has "i decided" been and gone from the lists there already?

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 15 August 2008 10:06 (seventeen years ago)

yeah minus the "been" part

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 August 2008 10:07 (seventeen years ago)

The "Get Like Me" chorus is shit, he takes a bunch of Joc lines that at one point were rhyming couplets that made some kind of grammatical sense, and just chopped it up and garbled it to the point that it's all nonsense like "HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A CHEVY WITH THE GET LIKE ME" and none of it rhymes or flows together at all.

some dude, Friday, 15 August 2008 13:28 (seventeen years ago)

the worst of the ones i've heard is definitely 'moving mountains'.

...wut? "movin mountains" is a great song, urshers vocal performance is amazing.

The Brainwasher, Friday, 15 August 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)

people are hating on here i stand for like no reason at all, just becasuse there aren't as many pop/uptempo songs on it, it's actually a good album.

The Brainwasher, Friday, 15 August 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)

has "i decided" been and gone from the lists there already?

ILX System, Sunday, 17 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

the "Donk" remix with Yung Joc? what's so special about that?

some dude, Sunday, 17 August 2008 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

take it out your pocket and show it

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 17 August 2008 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

the donk remix with yung joc that sounds like some gremlins hopping around a swizz beatz rmx of ray cash 'bumping my music'? dunno man, i just like it.

r|t|c, Monday, 18 August 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

my favorite part of "donk" is when he goes

"WOW she got a donk WOW WOW WOW"

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

i say that shit all the time now, great irl meme

also: is yung joc secretly the best r&b guest rapper of the decade?

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

26. Ne-Yo, "Closer" 2

wish this vile song would go away and take its ne-yophyte fans with it

r|t|c, Monday, 18 August 2008 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

his best single since "so sick"

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 00:18 (seventeen years ago)

your best inane opinion since the other thousand you probly posted in the last minute

r|t|c, Monday, 18 August 2008 00:26 (seventeen years ago)

haha i forgot about the weird voices and synths they added to "Donk" on the remix, I think the last time I listened to it the original hadn't been tattooed on my brain by the radio yet.

don't really see what's worth beefing over "Closer" about, i like it more than most of the stuff he's done since the first album but i don't know what kind of valid generalization you can make about fans of it as opposed to fans of him in general.

some dude, Monday, 18 August 2008 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

"because of you" is great and "sexy love" is pretty good but i love the hell out of "so sick", but any time i bring it up on ilx ppl seem to recoil

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 00:33 (seventeen years ago)

i liked "So Sick" a lot at the time, kind of ambivalent toward it now.

some dude, Monday, 18 August 2008 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

i liked it in the ne-yo v dream thread when dudes were all "bah these idiots taking songs outta context and misrepresenting the totally inconsequential album of my fave random-ass artist!!" and then being like "heyyyyy i love these housey ne-yo jawns though UNTZ UNTZ"

r|t|c, Monday, 18 August 2008 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know where i was for this poll

Surmounter, Monday, 18 August 2008 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

"bah these idiots taking songs outta context and misrepresenting the totally inconsequential album of my fave random-ass artist!!"

fwiw only deej said this

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

w/evs!

(lol apologies to the other trillion regular folk who charted 'closer' so high, you suck too but in a different way xx)

basically i contend that 'lets just be' is the only good ne-yo song this year, and that everything else is craven hackwork
