Bucketheads could be a good shout for the win

DJ Mencap, Friday, 15 August 2008 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

Taking a leaf from Geir's book and voting for Mike and the Mechanics. Great drivetime anthem.

Alysha Warren - I Thought I Meant The World To You

Just a reminder that there are chart singles I cannot remember and willl never hear again...

Mark G, Friday, 15 August 2008 11:10 (seventeen years ago)

don't fancy yours much in that photo

blueski, Friday, 15 August 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)

Went for Scarlet, but will be surprised if it's not a two-horse race between Bucketheads and N-Trance.

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 15 August 2008 11:16 (seventeen years ago)

and that's why i voted for MN8

blueski, Friday, 15 August 2008 11:18 (seventeen years ago)

Ini Kamoze ftw. Normally I vote for the Human League by default but it's one of their weaker efforrts.

Billy Dods, Friday, 15 August 2008 11:23 (seventeen years ago)

What a shitey chart. There's a lot of good stuff in there but the overall picture is one of shiteness. Exactly the sort of chart Dale would play on POTP to prove he was still "with it."

I predict Dale to play the following:
37, 23, 21

15, 13, 11

9, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 15 August 2008 12:19 (seventeen years ago)

Dutch Courage: 7, 8, 16, 18, 19, 24, 25, 27

Double Dutch: 2, 9, 13, 17, 26, 29, 33,

McClaren's Dutch-speak: 5, 10, 12, 22, 38,

Ron Dennis: 3, 4, 11, 14, 15, 21, 23, 28, 31, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40

Double Douche: 1, 6, 20, 30, 32, 39

blueski, Friday, 15 August 2008 12:57 (seventeen years ago)

I was honest with myself and voted for 'Poison'

DJ Mencap, Friday, 15 August 2008 13:00 (seventeen years ago)

so we know at least 2 of the 'poison' voters .

The Nightcrawlers - Push The Feeling On

I heard this while out dancing a month or so again and there was this sort of mass 'omg I remember this' that went round the room. It's great.

Matt DC, Friday, 15 August 2008 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

01. Cher, Chrissie Hynde And Neneh Cherry With Eric Clapton - Love Can Build A Bridge

What the hell is ^this^??!! I remember most of the records here, but this rings no bells at all

Not a chart that's aged terribly well. Bucketheads and N-Trance are a lot of fun and would be worthy winners, as would be Outhere Brothers. Boo Radleys are the opposite of fun. I'm going to give it to Prodigy though because Poison is pretty swampy and unusual. (I was about to say it might be their finest moment, but it clearly isn't while Charly and Out of Space exist)

I was at Ibrox for a friendly match around this time, and a fat skinhead behind me was trying to get a chant going to the tune of the Outhere Brothers. "Boom boom boom," he called. "Let me hear you say Gazza! (Laudrup!)" It didn't catch on.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

Going with Nightcrawlers here, it's louche in the best possible way.

WTF at Ned's Atomic Dustbin charting in 1995.

01. Cher, Chrissie Hynde And Neneh Cherry With Eric Clapton - Love Can Build A Bridge

It was the Comic Relief single for that year, cover of some Class Of '89 country song.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

Sounds like a barrel of laughs. They should've stuck with Hale & Pace

Ismael Klata, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

"Here Comes the Hotstepper". I suppose.

DavidM, Friday, 15 August 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

"Wake Up Boo!" Genius!

Geir Hongro, Friday, 15 August 2008 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

Surprisingly poor chart - I remember 95 as much better than this, but maybe that was the summer. Went with Bucketheads over Boo Radleys.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

If I'd seen this, I woulda voted for Neds, as I put that song on quite a few mixtapes that summer (it was on a CMJ sampler, and I was 16). Unfortunately, when I tried to put that song on a mix tape for a pal's hot younger sister a couple years later (because I knew she loved Neds), she told me that it was the worst song they ever recorded and that it was pandering. I was like, I know, I have a crush on you, of course I'm pandering! Most of the music you like is crap!

We never hooked up, and soon after she broke her leg playing soccer, and got both fat and mean, confined to the sofa for nearly six months.

Take that, Neds!

Hotstepper is classic but "You Gotta Be" deserved at least one vote!
