a counterpoint to worst song on Tha Carter III would be inevitable so in the interest of fairness:

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

i feel kind of leery about voting for a song where wayne has the best verse out of the three but whatever

still don't get they hype about "dr. carter", the concept is pretty ok i guess but i don't even think he pulls it off that well. i remember alex saying that he liked it cuz it finally makes wayne stay on topic, and ill buy that, but it's one of the best examples of post-dedication 2 wayne ending up with a middle of the road song cuz he drags down a bunch of great lines ("fly go hard, like geese erection", of course) with a bunch of really questionable bullshit ("mr jeezy will stitch your back up the nicest!", "and that's called recycling!" etc)

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 20:12 (seventeen years ago)

I love the recycling bit, it's like the most sincere defense of lyric biting ever. and it's just a great beat and I love the way he weaves around it.

top 5 at the moment:
Dr. Carter
Let The Beat Build
Comfortable
Tie My Hands
La La

some dude, Monday, 18 August 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

i was pretty disappointed when i found out that he recorded "tie my hands" something like 2 years ago, cuz it really seemed like an oasis of clear headed wayne among all the songs where he raps like he does now

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

i actually remember thinking the first time i heard it, "wow, it sounds like he recorded this like two years ago!"

J0rdan S., Monday, 18 August 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

favorite: let the beat build
surprised i like it so much maybe secret favorite: mrs. officer

This is the thread where I realise I've been listening to the wrong leak of this album as I don't actually have the first or last tracks. I knew I should have read that mammoth thread.

"Shoot Me Down." The terrible guitar solo is endearing!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 23:42 (seventeen years ago)

For having such terrible guests on paper, Mrs. Officer and Tie my Hands are much better than I expected. The former is funny, the chorus makes me love the song, and the siren thing is pretty sweet. And I actually like Robin on Tie My Hands better than Wayne - he seems a bit predictable on there. But the songs I expected to hate are nice.

Biggest Let-Down - La La. Him and Busta at their best should combine to make the zaniest hard rapper ever (considering Don't Touch Me brought old Busta back, it could have happened) but they failed. And the beat is terrible IMO.

Favorite: Let the Beat Build. Oh, there's my sam-PLE!

skygreenleopard, Thursday, 21 August 2008 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

I hated "Shooter" but I really don't see how Robin Thicke is a "terrible guest on paper."

Didn't like "La La" at all at first but every time a DJ puts it on now I like it more, definitely one of Wayne's best verses on the album.

some dude, Thursday, 21 August 2008 04:41 (seventeen years ago)

actually, on paper, when i saw "tie my hands" (ft. robin thicke) on paper, and i assumed that it was a song about kinky sex w/ a whiny robin thicke chorus, i thought it was going to be for sure the worst song on the album, so i kinda get what skygreen means

as for "la la", lots of ppl i know irl hate on that but to me the song has the only beat on the album that really matches with the famed martian reputation/motif that wayne has cultivated, those kinda creepy backing vocals make me picture this little ewok army or something

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 August 2008 04:49 (seventeen years ago)

also "La La" is totally one of the best songs on here, even with the shitty Brisco verse.

yeah i never got the hate about that one as i noted upthread, busta on point too

Maybe because it sucks compared to "La La La."

Trik Turner Fan Club President (Tape Store), Tuesday, 9 December 2008 07:18 (seventeen years ago)

Craiger Lazer (Craigo Boingo), Sunday, 1 May 2011 11:32 (fourteen years ago)

"Comfortable" was so great. did the chorus come from an actual Babyface tune or was it just for the Wayne song?

just for the wayne song

"Lollipop" is an A+ classic joint

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Sunday, 1 May 2011 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

the only song I really can't stand at all from Carter III is Miss Officer, there are others I'm indifferent to but they're inoffensive to me.

suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Sunday, 1 May 2011 19:48 (fourteen years ago)

Naw, "Mrs. Officer" is cool.

16. DontGetIt 1

I don't even remember this song.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Sunday, 1 May 2011 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

i honestly rarely made it that far on the album when I ever spun it after the first few listens.

suge knight rider (Neanderthal), Sunday, 1 May 2011 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

"DontGetIt" is the tedious "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" sample joint where he talks about Al Sharpton for like 5 minutes after the song ends

a lot of it for me is that it just goes on & on & on, but even if it was 3 minutes instead of 5 i think melodically it's weak and wayne's voice has a really unpleasant texture to it, overall just kind of a sickly anemic little song.

some dude, Monday, 2 May 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)

the song holds up really well imo that said yes it is 2 mins too long

u dont want dreamlike euphoria to zip to a 3 min conclusion, u have to let it ~marinate~

I don't really listen to anything else on this album.

what is your favorite rap album now?

rob, Friday, 14 August 2020 13:02 (five years ago)

lollipop was a great single. in that song, and many others from this era really goes great stuff with his croaky vocals.

when i was a freshman in college, lil wayne was a rare point of agreement between me and the mostly libertarian frat bros on my floor. they admired how many drugs he took and how little he was said to sleep. to them, he was sort of a folk hero.

the big flaw here is "phone home."
