I guess since this will finally break the pattern of singles winning SD album polls since this album didn't even have a single (did it?).

To the few of you (Americans, specifically) for whom this will mean anything, New York DJ Jonathan "Great American Songbook" Schwartz evidently only just discovered Steely Dan with this album. When I've been up to Mom & Dad's house on weekends, I've heard him play "Things I Miss the Most" multiple times, sandwiched between the Sondheim and Carly Simon songs. Never any other Steely Dan, just that song.

goin' with "Godwhacker" on this one.

You know, considering this is the last Steely Dan album to be polled, the name of this poll should have been "Poll I Miss The Most"

And that also gives a hint as to where my vote went. :)

"Things I Miss the Most"

jaymc, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 02:20 (seventeen years ago)

they played "Godwhacker" on Saturday. only song from this album they played. Last year, they did "Godwhacker" plus "Pixeleen". Since those are the only songs I know from this record, I will go with "Godwacker". Looks like I can get a used copy of the CD on amazon for $3.37, think i'm gonna do that...

one year passes...

look, let's face facts - this was the best lyric of the decade:

and if somewhere on the way, we got a few good licks in --
no one's ever gonna know.
'Cause we're going out of business.
Everything must go.

"Things I Miss the Most" is probably their greatest (and saddest) song.

Oh hey, I was just listening to this a few hours ago and was even musing about how great that line is.

twelve years pass...

Was jamming this in the car today while riding w/the kid, who thinks it's awesome but prefers Two Against Nature by a slight margin. I'm the opposite but it's close. They're both a lot better than I remembered.

Late with this response to the OP, but "Blues Beach" I believe was serviced as a single, or at the very least was sent out to Muzak and their ilk because I heard it in stores and restaurants a lot that summer.

Any steely related album <1984 > these albums

calstars, Monday, 27 May 2024 01:12 (one year ago)

These two albums are basically dead even in my book, a tier or two below the first seven albums, which are also remarkably close quality to each other

Vinnie, Monday, 27 May 2024 12:37 (one year ago)

I kinda like the songs but the sterile 90's production makes the records sound tinny and cheap.
