.. after the next album.

Which seems at first to be one of those "I'm having a bad day" things, but seems more definite.

So, whether or not you regard the band as being any good or not, is there something in having two reasonably well selling albums, a bunch of moneys from touring, then goodnight vienna?

Can't be bad, no.

McClure said he would "retire and become a pedal taxi driver"

By which he means "spend two years doing nothing and then release mediocre wibbly side project with Boom Bip or Anwar Superstar or something".

Well, that's what I mean.

Bloke worn out with high maintenance mainstream project, has just enough to pack it and wibble around with whatever he feels like.

If he really meant it, he'd retire now. Because he's doing it just before an album comes out, it's clearly some kind of publicity stunt. Even if he does MEAN IT, MAAAAAN.

At least he's lucky to be able to pack it in while people are still paying attention.

After two albums, he's likely still in deep hock to his record company anyway. Especially if the second one doesn't do very well.

This sort of brings to mind Stephen Jones, who packed in Baby Bird, did arty composing, and then a couple years ago came back as Baby Bird to general ambivalence.

If he meant it? He might have that 'two albums' contract to fulfil otherwise get sued to fuck.

Which, I suspect, is why and how the Libertines managed to produce that second album...

Has 2-album deal standard replaced the 4-album deal standard?

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 15:09 (seventeen years ago)

(If it has, I'm not sure if that's a more realistic way of approaching the thing, as lots of bands fail to live up to their debut - or less realistic as long-term bands often don't hit their stride until album 3 or 4...)
