I only just noticed the Falwell credit for "Homosexual". I'd never really seen a definitive answer about whether or not this was openly homophobic, but despite so many other 'faggot' references in punk songs of the time, I figured/hoped that it wasn't the case here, primarily due to the mixed messages. Maybe it was obvious to some. Anyway, this sums it up nicely...

“Homo-Sexual” was not the gay-baiting epithet, a la FEAR, some mistakenly believed (see song credit to “J. Falwell”); the lyrics (“screw your wife in the behind, tell your kids your doin fine …”) attempted metaphorical jabs, if you will, at the religious right back then.

"they saved hitler's cock" is my sentimental favorite

one of the finest punk rock statements ever made. sounds great, too.

Gas Chamber, Lights Out, and Steak Knife are all impossibly fantastic.

I'd completely forgotten about this band. I remember a guy who used to play U.S. hardcore on college radio (well actually I'm talking about one of the guys who went on to be in Happy Flowers but never mind) used to play these guys a lot. I don't remember anything specific about what they sounded like or what I thought of them, but it'd be interesting to hear something now.

Very fast, very brief and very hooky.

Classic, and will need thought. You used to be able to get most of their recorded work on a single CD.

A masterpiece. Best hardcore album (or EP or whatever) of all-time. "Lights Out."

My Old Man's A Fatso!

I'm pretty sure the Angry Samoans were homophobic, or at least baiting/"trolling" - I mean they released a single as the Queer Pills on Homophobic Records, "you pathetic male queer" in Get Off The Air etc. Even the liner notes to The Unboxed Set say one of the guys refused to sing "it started to get hard, I planted in my back yard" in They Saved Hitler's Cock because he was homophobic! As you say homophobic lyrics were common in LA punk back then though - Fear, Adolescents etc.

Going with "Fatso" over, well, everything else ("Lights Out" 2nd place), though I'd take "Get Off The Air" or "You Stupid Asshole" over "Fatso" even.

In case anybody missed it:

"My old man's a fatso/He's got a bathtub for a mouth" is one unforgettable couplet to be sure, but "Lights Out" takes this one pretty handily.
