I got the new LP on guhnarled forest, and for whatever reason, have been listening to these guys a LOT lately. Talked 'em up a while back on psyche/drone. S: especially the What We Do Is Secret half-LP (Borre Fen). Also Sickly Weaklings and the Anakrid split, though Anakrid = skippable.
― contenderizer, Saturday, 23 August 2008 06:30 (seventeen years ago)
Kerr! I just wrote you an email about this. How the hell do you get the fucking CD/LP of these guys? I wrote a message to them on myspace and it just bounced back. I should just try to get the fucking LP shouldn't I? These guys are like a dentist's drill in heaven or something.
― Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 23 August 2008 06:33 (seventeen years ago)
Please please someone tell me how to get an LP of this band. Please.
― Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 23 August 2008 06:35 (seventeen years ago)
I haven't heard this record but I've seen them live and they were great.
― Nate Carson, Saturday, 23 August 2008 10:15 (seventeen years ago)
Borre Fen and Sickly Weaklings are really really sick. Have to get this new one, whats it called?
― rizzx, Saturday, 23 August 2008 10:53 (seventeen years ago)
it's self titled. I have Borre Fen and For The Sickly Weaklings too as they're the easiest to get at the time. Also have new 7" and lp. Bimble try http://www.aquariusrecords.org

Bimble there's a paypal link right there on their myspace page. Read their entry titled "untitled LP now available."
― J0hn D., Saturday, 23 August 2008 14:43 (seventeen years ago)
The core of the band used to run the Electric Heavyland record store in the Wallingford neighborhood. The store was truly one of a kind when it came to experiment vs. dark metal. It was the size of a closet, but they somehow got the Melvins to play an in-store in there once. The store didn't last long unfortunately, but the operations are very much alive on-line.
And yeah I've seen them open for Sissy Spacek and Iron Lung and then most recently Wolf Eyes. Big energy/drone disconnect.
― Mackro Mackro, Saturday, 23 August 2008 15:21 (seventeen years ago)
which is good. (sorry, posted too early)
― Mackro Mackro, Saturday, 23 August 2008 15:42 (seventeen years ago)
Good lord, I never even visited this Electric Heavyland in Wallingford! Go figure. I swear I only remember one shop in that neighborhood and it was sorta daft. Except for that Golden Oldies place I got my Kevin Ayers LP. Shit, is that place even there anymore? Hell if I know.
Yes, John D., I already saw that link and I sorta sent them my $16 blind, hoping it would make something come to my door. Maybe Aquarius will help me find more, thanks Kerr.
― Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 23 August 2008 16:14 (seventeen years ago)
I had something or another downloaded by them a while back and didn't quite get it, didn't quite hit me. Plan on giving them another go based on this thread, though...
― RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 23 August 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)
Slugdey stoner doom rock.
― Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 24 August 2008 00:15 (seventeen years ago)
Bought most of the stuff I've got at Easy Street and Sonic Boom. Do miss Electric Heavyland. Fucked Up played there a few years back.
― contenderizer, Sunday, 24 August 2008 06:43 (seventeen years ago)
I got an LP in the mail. White vinyl. Not really an LP, just 20 min. long sides full of noise. Fantastic stuff. Scariest music I've ever heard in my life.
Aquarius Records are supposed to be sending me more. Fingers crossed.
God I'm really sorry I called them "sludgey stoner doom rock" because that doesn't even begin to cover it. I was way off base with that one.
― Bimble, Sunday, 31 August 2008 22:21 (seventeen years ago)
By the way, Bimble is still more goth than you.
― Bimble, Sunday, 31 August 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)
If you ever at any point in your life thought this group was "sludgey stoner doom rock" then you had obviously never heard them at that point.

Just off of I-90, about an hour or so east of Seattle, pass by North Bend, exit onto SE Homestead Valley rd, turn left onto NF-9020, an then you go through a gate up a hill and drive till you see freaks. This is a camping event, bring your own tents, sleeping bags, food, water, beer, whatever. and if you want to make a donation for the gas that's going to run the generators all weekend...please do that as well! Hope to see you there...

― J0hn D., Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:19 (seventeen years ago)
I wish I could make out who half of these bands are.
― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:25 (seventeen years ago)

― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 02:33 (seventeen years ago)
Heheh. I'm going to go to this with my best friend who will be in town that weekend!!!!!! He said he'll go with me!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yes...as if Fisting The Elderly wasn't enough, you've got Tird of Bills Colon. How can you go wrong?
I like crazy music played by freaks out in the middle of the woods, don't you?
― Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 05:58 (seventeen years ago)
Okay so I didn't end up going to that thing out in the woods, but I did see them play tonight for the first time. And I figure I should describe it for folks because anyone who has heard this band and like them would be curious about what the hell they might be like live.
So anyway, I thought it would only be two guys but it was about 6 people, all dressed in these...brown, sortof monk/grim reaper outfits so you couldn't see what they looked like, really. At the end, one of them took off their hood and revealed herself to be a woman, which was interesting. They had three gongs. Yep, THREE. But only two were really used a lot. And they had this person who was turning knobs on something. And they had these weird-ass long horn things they blew into that weren't like regular horns at all. Some of them were straight and plastic, but others were long and curled and flexible. And there was one that was so long and flexible that this guy was actually spinning it above his head in front of the audience, round and round, as he blew into it. And the freakiest thing was that when he did that, and when the horn finally got directed at me in the circle, I noticed I could hear a brief, clip noise. No lie. It happened about 3 times so I knew I wasn't imagining it. Also, I was not drunk or stoned at all. That was wild. He was making a sound that actually reached me, angle-wise, reached everyone, angle-wise, despite the loudness of everything else going on. Totally wild.
I also met a girl there who seemed quite young, she led me to believe she was probably in her early 20's but she might have been younger because it was an all-ages, non-alcohol gig. Anyway, what made me talk to her is she had this way cool Death In June hoodie, with a pic of the "Nada!" sleeve on the back. (I have a cool Death In June shirt, myself, but I'd rather have hers) She started asking me about bands and I was surprised at her knowledge of post-punk gothy sorts of things. Anyway, there was also someone there with a 45 Grave shirt, so I don't understand why BSBC/Gnarled Forest bristle so much at the "goth" tag. For god's sake look at their sleeves! But you know, to each his/her own, I guess.
BSBC have a new thing called "The Endless Blockade". I already ordered it online. Also they only did one "song" at the gig, which was fine. The girl I met said their set was even shorter at the gig out in the woods.
― The Ungrateful Dead (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Saturday, 1 November 2008 06:38 (seventeen years ago)
Also, yes, they did have two guys that mumbled/screamed into microphones, so the things you think are (demon) vocals on their records really are. But of course you can't tell what the fuck they're saying.
― The Ungrateful Dead (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Saturday, 1 November 2008 06:40 (seventeen years ago)
So you made a new goth-friend?
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 2 November 2008 13:16 (seventeen years ago)
I ordered that new vinyl too btw
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 2 November 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)
My vinyl hasn't arrived yet, but 2 new tapes did. Not played them yet, my tape deck needs cleaned and I've no fluid cleaner for it.
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 9 November 2008 20:12 (seventeen years ago)
Kerr, dude, I know. I know you need me to rip these records. I've had it in the back of my mind, and I'm going to do it right now, or at least the vinyl. I'm going to disconnect my computer now so I can rip the red vinyl. I can at least rip the vinyl even if I get bored after that and find I can't rip the cassettes without suckling my iPod first. A man needs his iPod after awhile you know???
― Your Head Is Full of Diamonds & Lice (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Sunday, 9 November 2008 20:21 (seventeen years ago)
haha it's ok. I wasn't hinting.
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 9 November 2008 20:52 (seventeen years ago)
this is one of those bands like Final Fantasy whose name pisses me off so much that I can't bother to listen to them
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 9 November 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)
i felt the same way, then i listened to them anyway. you're not missing a whole lot.
― like burning a swan (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 10 November 2008 04:19 (seventeen years ago)
I actually kind of like the name, but the music is so totally mediocre/just plain BAD that I feel like the name is the ONLY reason they've gotten any attention.
― Reatards Unite, Monday, 10 November 2008 07:16 (seventeen years ago)
LOL you guys don't even know what the fuck you are talking about. This is fucking music for the apocalypse, man. Haven't you noticed that the economy is fucked globally? Haven't you noticed global warming? Haven't you noticed awful wars and terrorism? Haven't you noticed we're all DOOOOMED?
This is music that fucking puts all that onto vinyl in the best way possible. So suck me if you don't think so.
― Your Head Is Full of Diamonds & Lice (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Monday, 10 November 2008 07:46 (seventeen years ago)
Downloaded "Borre Fen", and I'm afraid it didn't do it for me either, though I can see it might work live, particularly in the middle of a forest.
― Soukesian, Monday, 10 November 2008 07:58 (seventeen years ago)
I've only seen live as openers. They're a live act, not a studio act. Tho if you dig the records, power to ya

All of this shit is about as clever as wacky white guys responding to "Chocolate Rain" with their hilarious "VANILLA SNOW" YouTubes.
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:52 (seventeen years ago)
Hmm, trying to make out that this is a trend seems to be reaching somewhat. I quite like the name (BSBC that is). How representative is the Static Caravan 7" of their other stuff? I'm not hugely down with that yet; could see it being more profitable over 40 minutes than about eight but don't intend to spend forever finding out
― The Slash My Father Wrote (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)
Fuck, it's called "Static Caravan?" Are they like metal Weird Al or something?
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)
We Sold Our Soul For Pizza Rolls
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)
That's the label's name. They mainly put out indie
― The Slash My Father Wrote (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)
and thus my Sabbath-songs-with-food-in-them meme was deaded :(
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:53 (seventeen years ago)
Ha, I only just realised you thought they were riffing on Planet Caravan - figured your complaint was just that calling anything other than a static caravan 'Static Caravan' is dorky as hell

New lp arrived in the mail today. Hurrah.

Man, a lot of people is bitches about the stupid name, which is, yeah, an exceptionally stupid name, but so what? If the Brian Jonestown Massacree can get away with it, why not a bunch of Wolf Eyes people who aren't actually Wolf Eyes? Agree w/ Soukesian that Borre Fen is the best starting point (of the stuff I've heard), and if you don't like that, there isn't much point in digging further. And I guess the limited appeal of this kind of stuff is pretty much built in from the get got. Still think it's pretty damn GREAT for what it is - psychedelic monster-movie rumble noise.

Very very very unexpected find today at the local Half Price Books, a $2.98 copy of the For the Sickly Weaklings LP.
