...and from the same great Suffolk town appeared Thomas Very Fucking Stupid.
Great thrash drummer who loved his drums so much, he went out all on his own and formed a D&B called Klute.Very good too

Crazy town is Ipswich Town

Feel like doing a Bad Dress Sense thread

I love the Stupids. I have most if not all their records including the Violent Nun single and a flexi-disc thing. I saw them once only and was blown away by them. I couldn't understand why they weren't much more popular. What can I say - they were bee's tits, at a time when there weren't many other bands doing this kind of thing in the UK. They are supposed to be reissuing things on cd this year.

I had Retard Picnic, but I can't really remember that much about it now. I sold it on because I thought it was just way too stupid. Not sure what I was expecting really. Weren't there a couple of non-thrashy Moving Targets-y, Squirrel Bait-ish tunes on it? I think I quite enjoyed those.

God, thinking about the Stupids gets me thinking about the Joyce McKinney Experience and HDQ and Dan and the Cateran and lots of UK bands like that who no-one liked.

There's a double-CD comp called Stupid Is As Stupid Does which I think has everything they released on it.

I like early HDQ but their later more melodic stuff doesn't do much for me.

Anybody remember Bad Beach?! Christ!

I was in London at the time and remember seeing all of these bands but the Stupids and all their , erm side projects such as Frankfurter and were my goofy faves.
They were as obsessed as I with US hardcore too - embarrassingly so - skateboards, fake yank accents -they even did a rather paltry imitation of the Descendents 'food rock'.

But, their 'Violent Nun'EP and first LP, 'Peruvian Vacation' were very enjoyable to me at the time. Think I have that 'Greatest Hits' cd somewhere colonel. Since I moved house last year though my shit is all over the place. It's a shame that my family cannot have breakfast to The Stupids. Yet.

In summary though, not sure I miss them too much

I got all the reissues sent to me a couple of months back so listened to The Stupids for about five hours straight - it was enduring

Raphanadosis is a great album :)

I was more of a "Fired from the Circus" man myself.

Their huge Frank Sidebottom heads, swaying drunkenly whilst delivering, blast beats under frying bacon guitars was a joy to behold. All that plus exploding vegetables.

Deep fucking hell - what a nightmare.

From recollection, 'Fired From The Circus' had one of the worst covers ever? I've still got it somewhere.

My copy is up in the loft.

They liked hats.

Yes they did, didn't they. They are even pictured giving one to Baby Jesus on one of their album sleeves.
