Help an Ignoramus: "Classic British Indie Rock" - Further Recommendations?

I recently got a copy of this free covermount Mojo CD called "Beloved... a treasury of classic British indie rock," and I've become totally obsessed with it the last few weeks. I knew virtually nothing by any of these bands before.

The tracklist of the disc is below... help me make a similar companion disc (FWIW, my total favorites are probably the Blue Aeroplanes song and the Wild Swans song)...

01. The House of Love - "Real Animal"
02. Felt - "Penelope Tree"
03. The La's - "Son Of A Gun" (BBC session)
04. The Monochrome Set - "He's Frank (Slight Return)"
05. The Loft - "Up The Hill And Down The Slope"
06. The Blue Aeroplanes - "Jacket Hangs"
07. The Sound - "Total Recall"
08. Orange Juice - "Simply Thrilled Honey"
09. McCarthy - "Keep An Open Mind, Or Else"
10. Jane - "It's A Fine Day"
11. The Wild Swans - "The Revolutionary Spirit"
12. The Teardrop Explodes - "Reward" (BBC session)
13. The Gist - "Love At First Sight"
14. Wah! Heat - "7 Minutes To Midnight"
15. Half Man Half Biscuit - "God Gave Us Life"

Thanks!

I'm pretty happy to see the Sound on there, at least!

The Loft, Why Does The Rain? -- their only good record

Felt, The World Is As Soft As Lace -- their only good record

The La's, There She Goes -- their only great record

The House of Love, Destroy the Heart -- one of their several great records

Ride, Like A Daydream -- better than everything on that CD

x-post -- Hehehe. (I mostly agree with PF except I think Felt had a lot more to offer and that much as I love Ride I could never rank the Monochrome Set, Orange Juice or the Sound lower than them.)

Ned, what are a couple other great songs by The Sound?

Jazz Butcher belongs somewhere in there. Maybe. Can't remember anything specific.

So much great Teardrops material to complement "Reward" -- the obvious choice is "Treason" but you should consider the slightly lower-profile "Ha Ha I'm Drowning" and "Books" as well.

If you like "Simply Thrilled Honey" I think "Blue Boy" is the natural next OJ track to listen to, though in the end "Moscow Olympics" is my very favorite.

Pale Saints, "Sight of You"
Trashcan Sinatras, "Obscurity Knocks"
Pastels, "Baby Honey"

I just got that Stump "Complete Anthology" 3-CD - wonderful.

The story in the liner notes about all the engineers and producers on that one album: Holger Hiller(!), Hugh Jones, Stephen Street, John Robie(!)

If you can try to track down the Indie Top 20 compilations on the Beechwood label (circa '87-'94) I became a fan of a lot of bands through those, and they were pretty broad: jangly indie, indie-dance, shoegaze, early Britpop etc.
