Rolling Stone Review
Supersoul is distributed by DFA in US (on this comp at least) and by Kompakt overseas. Are they any good?

I mean, is IT (the label) any good, of course.
― RNYC, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)
terrible. i've got this and it's standard, boring house/techno. blander than fuck. avoid at all costs (even free).

i really like the plastique de reve stuff, i have the 12"
i generally like most stuff from Death From Abroad as well, i would be interested in this but haven't heard anything

how about DFA Presents Notwave, the DFA/Rong collab .... any opinions on that one yet?
― dmr, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)
What has been good on the Death From Abroad label?
― RNYC, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)
Mock & Toof - K Choppers is excellent Altz - Max Motion / Yello is pretty good (don't really like the Idjuts remixes on side 2)

Notwave is Notgood

they've done several comps like this recently, steve kotey did the Disco Not Disco, all trying to capture the disco/punk scene in the 80s (i guess?). I like some of the stuff, like Gina X Performance, but otherwise it's just meh

xpost notwave's not terrible, just not up to dfa standards. first few songs sound like factory/joy division rips. tussle song is rad (tribal dance). Mr Chin song is fantastic (sounds like some long lost rapture remix). circuits sounds like the police w/o stings vocals. near the end sounds like animal collective vocals. The Welcome Strangers sounds like a chicago house version of peter gunn. the rest are half baked noisy nonsongs

i dig the mogg&naud moon units. and the deuteronomy brown is good. it was used to great effect on a rodion mix about this time last year. haven't heard much of the other stuff on the label.

i still need to hear Notwave, will give it a listen

OTM - "Lost in the City (featuring Ghostape)" is the best track on either of these discs.

'lost' by naudascher (the label head) is great.
― haitch, Thursday, 28 August 2008 00:58 (seventeen years ago)
thanks

i got the notwave sampler promo with some records i bought today
The Welcome Strangers sounds like a chicago house version of peter gunn. lol, OTM i didn't know what to think when you described this but it is! the chuggy bassline and all the vocal loops
tussle is the winner though
