billstevejim, Thursday, 28 August 2008 02:59 (seventeen years ago)

the correct answer is Eyehategod and all you guys who're fixin to vote Burzum need to check yourselves and recognize

I used to think Bethlehem was hilarious. I'll have to re-explore the issue.

burt_stanton, Thursday, 28 August 2008 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

I still have to watch this. Ken Park made me laugh a lot (sometimes sincerely, sometimes uncomfortably), and though I think it's a cheap move for a director to make something that might as well have the words SHOCKING SHIT stamped on it, I still want to see this.

Voted 'Dragonaut' cos I had that song stuck in my head for days a while back

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 28 August 2008 23:24 (seventeen years ago)

i don't even think the eyehategod song is in the film, just on the soundtrack. anyway the best scene w/ music is dragonaut with kids on bikes.

am0n, Thursday, 28 August 2008 23:56 (seventeen years ago)

I only know one sleep song, I could vote for that I suppose, but I really want to hear this

I know, right?, Thursday, 28 August 2008 23:59 (seventeen years ago)

The lone vote for Mortician has been cast.

billstevejim, Sunday, 31 August 2008 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

This is my favorite soundtrack/movie combination.. I wouldn't call myself a metalhead, but I do love this album. LOVE! It's so fucking absurd and brilliant, and it introduced me to so much music I would have been oblivious to otherwise.

billstevejim, Sunday, 31 August 2008 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

God damn it people, Equimanthorn is op the list. Equimanthorn!

Siegbran, Sunday, 31 August 2008 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

latebloomer, Sunday, 31 August 2008 19:11 (seventeen years ago)

Brujeria was members of Faith No More and the Melvins wasn't it?

Neil S, Sunday, 31 August 2008 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

iirc it was (is?) a supergroup of sorts consisting of dudes from fear factory carcass napalm death and some other metal bands.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

dragonaut even though it sounds exactly like a black sabbath song

18. Sleep - "Some Grass" 2

Weird considering this song is something like 45 seconds long...

Far more people voted than I anticipated, giving me much hope for humanity.

That's what this soundtrack makes me think of -- 8 mono tracks of 48Khz digital audio recording onto a 4GB hard drive. No grid in the software. No automation. No plug-ins. No MIDI. Just some old school Digidesign nastiness running off a Quadra 400 that's now famous for being the largest Mac ever. 25MHz processor, I think. My friend Gibbs mailed it to me piece by piece from San Francisco while working on an Oxbow record. Hilarious, it was five huge boxes and ten pounds of manuals!

And then the wrong Dark Noerd song ended up on the CD, the demo done on a Tascam Portastudio with Deck II drums. Stupid Randall Poster. Somebody at the Howard Stern show made a promo of the first 30 seconds of the song with the talking book strips.

There was actually a big push behind this soundtrack at first, believe it or not, complete with Rolling Stone feature. London signed Sleep on the back of this. And then Sleep refused to tour, handed in Jerusalem, and I think Janet Maslin reviewed the film in like June in the New York Times and said something like: "I know it's only June, but I'm pretty confident this is the worst movie of the year." Things went downhill...straight to IFC. Everything was canceled, they even stopped production of the CD. It's probably rarer than any Bethlehem disc. Possibly rarer than the London Jerusalem promos!

What else? The frame grab of a black metal guy in booklet is paul ledney from the Profanatica jack-off video. The use of the Sleep song with the kids on bikes is a direct rip/homage to the kids in bikes in Over the Edge. They had to cut 10 seconds at the last minute of footage depicting the kids sniffing glue in order to avoid an NC-17 rating. I had an early shooting script, it was close to the final film.

Well, here's the REAL "Smokin' Husks"...huge improvement. HERE IT IS WEIRD 1997 SOUNDTRACK METAL

Yes, thats definitely in Gummo!!

I have this weird skin thing where I get a rash for like 5 minutes that takes the shape of wherever I get scratched, and several times I've written "SLAYER" into my arm and joked that I had burned the Slayer logo permanently into my skin, even though it was gone 20 minutes later... partially in tribute to gummo, but now I know where it's really from.
