While The Spongetones are completely in a league of their own here with their genius early Beatles pastiche that is one of the best singles ever, there are still other gems too. Phil Seymour, Marshall Crenshaw, Hoodoo Gurus, Bangles, The Pursuit Of Happiness and The La's are all represented with great tracks.

Lots of great stuff, went with Hoodoo Gurus.

Does have one of my least fave dBs tunes, so many betters ones.

Lots of good stuff here but in the end the choice was easy:

Hoodoo Gurus: I Want You Back

I guess this is the decade that "powerpop" lost its power (at least if you leave out Bryan Adams and 38 Special.) After the first volume, this is just sad.

Went with Holly and the Italians.

Phil Seymour.

PappaWheelie V, Sunday, 31 August 2008 04:35 (seventeen years ago)

Crenshaw, the production notwithstanding.

Pancakes Hackman, Sunday, 31 August 2008 12:03 (seventeen years ago)

Btw. I know this is a horrible poll title, but using it was too tempting. :)

(Hmmm.. "Automatic For The Pee Poll" next, maybe?) :)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 08:47 (seventeen years ago)

oh your poll titles are the worst!

(keep going tho)

Mark G, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 08:57 (seventeen years ago)

no, stop going right this second

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 09:00 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

that Let's Active song is the best

Zeno, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 23:04 (seventeen years ago)

Ugh -- power pop.

Voted for Marshall Crenshaw over the Bangles.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 23:09 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Going Down To Liverpool - Bangles 0
A Million Miles Away - The Plimsouls 0

Only moments ago the Gummo poll restored my faith in humanity, however now I'm less optimistic.

ridiculous that the bangles would get no votes. good to see hoodoos love though, that's one of my favourite tracks of theirs..

give me some peppermint freddo (electricsound), Friday, 12 September 2008 01:45 (seventeen years ago)

OK. I notice this thread got dominated by jangle pop and indie-type bands from the late 80s. Well, fine, although the earlier, more obvious powerpop material on this CD is better. :)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 12 September 2008 08:34 (seventeen years ago)

(But "There She Goes" and "I Want You Back" are of course a fantastic songs, so no complaints about that)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 12 September 2008 08:34 (seventeen years ago)

"A Million Miles Away" is one of the 20 or so best songs ever recorded.

billstevejim, Saturday, 13 September 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

is there a more boring "perfect pop" song than "there she goes"?

donna rouge, Saturday, 13 September 2008 03:37 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think The La's were shooting for "excitement"... more like dreamy happy-heroin land.

billstevejim, Saturday, 13 September 2008 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

Who was the other Seymour voter?
