we must have done this already surely?

the next grozart, Monday, 1 September 2008 13:59 (sixteen years ago)

but let's do this again anyway.

It's a toss up between OK Computer and In Rainbows for me. I mean, OK Computer was, for a long long time after it came out, the best album ever made by my standards. But I am more interested in hearing In Rainbows these days and I'm interested in its social significance as an event-album. Plus the music's really good, it's the most fully-formed thing they've done since OKC and doesn't sound like an experiment.

I enjoyed Kid A and Amnesiac and HTTF but there were many moments in there where you got the impression they hadn't quite got things nailed or that they were trying very hard to sound like Autechre or industrial music or something and I couldn't get behind that.

The Bends is great too, but it's been eclipsed by everything that came after.

Still Ok Computer for me, with In Rainbows and Kid A not too far behind.

Heh. I'm intrigued by the 'next' though - is there an hilarious twist to come?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 1 September 2008 14:35 (sixteen years ago)

The Bends is still their best record in my humble opinion.

Sean D'olier, Monday, 1 September 2008 21:53 (sixteen years ago)

goddamnit i may be its only voter, but... Hail to the Thief.

stephen, Monday, 1 September 2008 21:57 (sixteen years ago)

I still see 'kid a' as a huge black monolith shading all of their output in comparison.

Moka, Monday, 1 September 2008 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

really could pick anything after PH and feel neither like i'd made a mistake or that i's chosen correctly. however, a detailed empirical analysis (very good song = 1pt, belter = 2pts) reveals that In Rainbows is my favourite, and who am i to argue with science?

Still "OK Computer" and always will be "OK Computer". Followed by "The Bends" and then probably "In Rainbows" lightyears behind.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 1 September 2008 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

Geir completely and totally OTM

stephen, you're not alone. HTTT is the only one I listen to regularly.

!Alicia!, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

HTTT is underrated and contains much brilliance, but it's a bit of a sprawl. IR and KA are concise and near perfect.

chap, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

Amnesiac.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

Kid A. Didn't even have to think about it.

I pretty much hated In Rainbows...first Radiohead album I could say that about.

au contrairé!

i feel like maybe Hail to the Thief is Radiohead's Daydream Nation, in that both records were surrounded by records more concise, poppy, memorable, or with better individual songs... but they are also masterpieces in their sprawling-ness.
