What the fuck is Heriot-Watt University? I do like how the good Prof. North calls his own research "significant." Sounds like one of those facebook quizzes.

― CaptainLorax, Thursday, 11 September 2008 02:36 (sixteen years ago)
"One of the most surprising things is the similarities between fans of classical music and heavy metal. They're both creative and at ease but not outgoing."
maybe some of the heavy metal fans we're lying, possibly maybe
― CaptainLorax, Thursday, 11 September 2008 02:38 (sixteen years ago)
Perhaps when North described the results as "significant" he meant it as in the statistical sense, as in there was another variance to show distinct differences for each music genre fans personality. me being a stat major, and hopefully a statistician shortly, I have to call balogna on the mother fucker. I don't even want to see a blueprint of his survey and calculations, the results are obviously b.s. and non-inclusive.

I've seen threads about this on approximately 5000 different messageboards while ILX has been down and every single one has featured people being as dumb as a plate of gravel and completely failing to understand how surveys work

"The general public has held a stereotype of heavy metal fans being suicidally depressed and of being a danger to themselves and society in general. But they are quite delicate things."

The general public has held a stereotype of heavy metal fans being suicidally depressed and of being a danger to themselves and society in general
Eh?
― Tom D., Thursday, 11 September 2008 09:20 (sixteen years ago)
Um, suicidally depressed people who are a danger to themselves are indeed quite delicate things.
Who on Earth thinks of HM fans that way anyway? If there is a HM stereotype it probably involves hard drinking and motorbikes, non?
― the pinefox, Thursday, 11 September 2008 09:20 (sixteen years ago)
Agree, Tom D: it's bonkers

In the 70s maybe. Nowadays it's all LARPers and university computer programming societies and women who spend £300 on corsets but 0 on facial hair bleach.

Soul fans win. What would Geir think?
― Tom D., Thursday, 11 September 2008 09:25 (sixteen years ago)
I have nothing against soul. It is all the stuff that happened after soul that I have disliked. Soul is melodic and fine.
― Geir Hongro, Thursday, 11 September 2008 09:28 (sixteen years ago)
Generally it seems the self esteem is dangerously high among those who like bad music though. Like chartpop. :)
This survey fails to tell you which one to listen to if you want to get laid the most.
Fuck the Large Hadron Collider. Science has failed us again.

I think it's safe to say that blues fans get laid the least, though.
