IDM if you want to get laid the least
For example, if you have a fear of sex involving another person.

snoball, Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:40 (sixteen years ago)

I thought it was proven by science that indie twee kids were at it like rabbits!

Our Friend The Atom (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:57 (sixteen years ago)

The answer to this might actually be rock/metal.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:00 (sixteen years ago)

Well, that's if you're a fat sweaty hairy man.

Indie or Rap

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:27 (sixteen years ago)

by Indie here i mean bullshit like the Fratellis

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:28 (sixteen years ago)

go for a drink with the lads'n'get laid WAHEY

J4gger Dynamic Pentangle (Just got offed), Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:29 (sixteen years ago)

i mean a better question would be "which style of music leads to the best sex"

J4gger Dynamic Pentangle (Just got offed), Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:30 (sixteen years ago)

Oh god please no.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:49 (sixteen years ago)

Opera may be in with an outside chance here, drama student phenomenon and all that.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:50 (sixteen years ago)

Wait, is this for males, females, humans or what?

Our Friend The Atom (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:53 (sixteen years ago)

it's really retarded that no one's so much as mentioned soul in this thread

lex pretend, Thursday, 11 September 2008 12:55 (sixteen years ago)

Soul is really tricky though - it should be a no-brainer but there's also this horrible offputting I AM PUTTING SADE ON IN MY JAG IN ORDER TO TRY AND SEDUCE YOU WHEN I GET BACK TO MY YUPPY BATCHELOR PAD vibe.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:03 (sixteen years ago)

Soul as in what tho? if R&B then maybe, otherwise... xp

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:03 (sixteen years ago)

obv the question and options are retarded so what hope for the thread

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:05 (sixteen years ago)

This 'question' is the reason for 95% of aesthetic choices anyone makes between the ages of 13 and 21.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:06 (sixteen years ago)

if only i'd known etc.

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:08 (sixteen years ago)

depends on who you want to sleep with, but i think 'soul' would be the least divisive. i can see someone being like, 'well, he's cute, but he ONLY listens to jazz/metal/opera.'

poortheatre, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:08 (sixteen years ago)

Now I know where it all went wrong! I based my listening choices on personal taste - and everyone knows that shoegaze/dronerock is the most asexual of all genres. :-(

Our Friend The Atom (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:11 (sixteen years ago)

Happy hardcore would like to disagree with you.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

no-one will be impressed just by looking at your CD collection/itunes playlists on laptop so it's all about the social element ie gigs/ scene culture and how widely that's represented in your social network. music provides the context but if you're just going out to the same kinds of places and events a lot that's the real key.

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

no-one will be impressed just by looking at your CD collection/itunes playlists on laptop

I would just like to say, as a girl, that I *have* been impressed, in the past, by potential partners' record collections.

True, it was an appalling indicator of successfulness of the relationhips, but what is?

Our Friend The Atom (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:19 (sixteen years ago)

Blueski - that's implicit in the question really.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:19 (sixteen years ago)

sorry sir

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:21 (sixteen years ago)

ie metal is far more societal a music in 2008 than, say, soul, but it's equally much more divisive as pointed out upthread. Maybe I'm overthinking this seeing as I started the thread mostly as an excuse for people to make lame 'lol, goths will fuck anything' jokes.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

at least it dispels the idea that just being into a particular genre would directly increase your chances of sex, which is an idea some people might still have (maybe this is what Lex was thinking re Soul, or maybe that was just 'this is obv the sexiest music thus...')

blueski, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:23 (sixteen years ago)

Soul may be "the sexiest music" but there's an advert for this album on TV that kinda explicitly targets soul fans, and I gotta guess that maybe soul fans have the highest marriage rate of fans of any genre? They ain't getting laid outside of birthdays, St Val's and maybe post-play off victories.

Metal chicks, on the other hand, will fuck anything.

If you really need a 00's album I'd say go for 'in rainbows'., Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

I think liking some genres will directly increase your chances of sex if, for example, you cannot dance without looking like a complete idiot. This is why people become indie kids in the first place.

(Am I just trolling the Lex now? I can't tell).

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:29 (sixteen years ago)

Which category should-could-might the "Friends" theme song fit in? Indie?

thanks, blueski. yours a good formulation. :)

The Slash My Father Wrote (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 11 September 2008 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

I went with dance because you're more likely to be on drugs.

Alba, Thursday, 11 September 2008 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

When you sleep with someone for the first time, I guarantee it's not the music that got you there. The best you can hope for is to not play music that will keep them from coming back for seconds/thirds, etc.

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 11 September 2008 16:53 (sixteen years ago)

getting laid a lot is within you
no kind of music can help you

I'm gonna go with Rock/Heavy Metal (although it's kind of ridiculous to put them together). The correct answer is: whatever style the DMB is.

daavid, Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

By "jazz", do we mean John Zorn or the stuff they play in shopping malls?

snoball, Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:06 (sixteen years ago)

I'm going with indie since they all have low standards

html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:08 (sixteen years ago)

My guess is chart pop.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 11 September 2008 20:33 (sixteen years ago)

Juggalo ftw

No way, Juggalos fuck all the time. It's just that they choose to mate and reproduce with their own kind. Most of the Juggalos I've encountered were couples.

Patrick Leahy, (D)-VT (deej), Thursday, 11 September 2008 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

Hate to ruin the party but you'd have to give strong emphasis on demographics for this poll to hold any kind of truth.

Moka, Thursday, 11 September 2008 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

My own Don Juan/Casanova-like experience says: just keep some Duffy, Caetano Veloso, Sade and Jack Johnson CDs handy, also some of those Hed Kandi/Cafe del Mar compilations and by all means hide stuff like Celtic Frost and the entire Sunn O))) opus away from view.

Vision, Thursday, 11 September 2008 22:39 (sixteen years ago)

Geir is correct, the answer is chart pop.

If you can identify with a large number of women's tastes and talk great top 40 singles they know and love, you're in.

Is Jeff Buckley a music genre?

See also: Elektra records' late-1960s roster of handsome singer-songwriters and sexy frontman. The kind of guys women wanted to pretend were singing just for them. e.g. Bread, Tim Buckley, The Doors, Love (Bryan MacLean), etc. You start to see that "would've been a Hollywood leading man if he couldn't be a sensitive guy with a guitar"-archetype develop on that label.

Cunga, Saturday, 8 November 2008 06:33 (sixteen years ago)

Where's Reggaeton?

I just came back from a party full of underage (legal) girls and though I didn't dance with any of them (pretty much because I'm heterosexual) a few of my male friends seemed to get lucky tonight.

Moka, Saturday, 8 November 2008 08:18 (sixteen years ago)

Test your hypotheses on Ariane!. If I recall correctly, she likes jazz the best.

This! You're putting the Ben E. King record on the turntable! It's not like you're trying to impress her with the serial number! It's a win!

HOOS HOOS HOOS on the autosteen (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Saturday, 8 November 2008 08:51 (sixteen years ago)

That said I imagine chartpop is the background music for most getdowns these days.

HOOS HOOS HOOS on the autosteen (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Saturday, 8 November 2008 08:51 (sixteen years ago)

i do think the qn should have been rephrased as "which style of music is it best to be a fan of if you want to get laid a lot with people you actually want to get laid with"

reggaeton seems like an A+ answer (though sadly not for teh gays) (i guess dancehall too, by the same token)

lex pretend, Saturday, 8 November 2008 09:44 (sixteen years ago)

I'm still confused by the question.

I mean, who are we talking about? Laid by whom? I mean, you could be a gay man and go dancing at Trade or somewhere and get laid a billion times - but does that count as getting laid because of the music?

I don't think there's a single type of music in the world that could get me laid - no, wait, that's not true. I got propositioned by a sensitive indie singer-songwriter type last week. Oh well, I cast the wrong vote. Not the first time I get things wrong.

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 8 November 2008 10:04 (sixteen years ago)

If you can identify with a large number of women's tastes and talk great top 40 singles they know and love, you're in.

This strikes me as a surefire way to becoming Gay Best Friend. (Nb - does not require homosexuality).

Matt DC, Saturday, 8 November 2008 14:07 (sixteen years ago)

Jeff Buckley is a dud for setting the mood. Anything that is quiet one minute and LOUD the next is distracting.. Some dub techno however...

mmmm, Saturday, 8 November 2008 14:33 (sixteen years ago)

... if yous out looking however (not that I'm "in the scene" these days) round these parts it seems electro / minimal house is music for copping off...
