Compact Organisation/Tot Taylor

Since someone started a thread on El recently, how about Compact? I've heard it was something of an inspriation for El? I have a Vinra Lindt LP that is kind of nice, and some Tot Taylor stuff that isn't actually on Compact, but it's pretty hard to find much else (I guess Mari Wilson is there too). Anyone have anything to say about The Compact Organisation?

i've got the verna lindt album and love it, but my friend has a DEEPLY odd compact organisation promo box set of photos, articles and a few records which he picked up cheap somewhere. only briefly listened to it, but like el it seemed a triumph of packaging and image first then music as a secondary...

Nice - a lot of cheap fun, but also a few scattered gems (eg. 'Windmills of your Mind' which sounds a bit like Nico).
She also had a pretty good tune on the Club Tricatel comp in 2002.

Assuming this is the 'A Young Person's Guide to Compact' being described, I just ordered a vinyl copy of this via discogs! *excited* Not sure if my copy is going to include the posters, badges etc.

Are there any record labels around at the moment who do the Compact/El records thing of a ultra styalised, mannered aesthetic across the line, elaborate sleeve design etc? It kind of seems like it would fit neatly into the etsy seller style, and those blogs of girls taking photos of their vintage outfits and stacks of old penguin paperback and so forth, but do the economics make it impractical in the downloading/spotify age?

I know there are some artists who release albums mainly only in digital format but also sell bespoke physical copies as well, for example the new George Pringle album is streaming on soundcloud and spotify but you could order a physical copy of it from her website that came with postcards, tied up with a ribbon etc. It's nice, but it's like a cardboard sleeve with the cover printed on a colour printer and glued to the front, the title written in pen on the CD etc, sort of a world away from the sumptuous packaging that El and Compact released. The sleeve is great as well, I just think how fantastic it could be if they had more money to produce it!
