I can’t tell if it is outdated or ahead of some retro ’90s curve.

I didn't like it.

It's pretty bad. Critics too quick to praise it in light of Portishead making a successful return. Lazy, half-arsed sounding. I was hoping he would do a sequel to Pre-Millenium Tension, but you can't have everything.

He could've called it Post Millenium Tension

On the subject of not very good "return to form" albums, has anyone heard the new Sine Tempus? Don't Give In is great, but the rest is, well, gash.

Sine Tempus by Goldie I mean.

I think it's decent, but nowhere near his best. But that's from just a single listen. I liked a few tracks but the album as a whole feels disjointed, incomplete. Like a puzzle with missing pieces. Or with pieces from multiple puzzles, accidentally mixed up.

one year passes...

Wow, this thread is pathetically short.

Anyway:

Tricky has revealed details for Mixed Race, his next full-length on Domino.

"I've spent my life going between cultures; Mixed Race is about that, and in a very direct way," says Tricky about his new record. It will be his ninth studio album to date, and his second for Domino. The album was recorded in Paris, where Tricky is currently based, and boasts a diverse bill of guest appearances, including Jamaican vocalist Terry Lynn, Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream and Tricky's own brother, Marlon Thaws.

A lot has happened in the 19 years since Tricky's debut with Massive Attack, and according to the man himself, Mixed Race reflects a very seasoned perspective. "Every album is a learning experience and this is concentrated music, there's no dilution," he says. "I'm comfortable in my own skin now, comfortable with being in the light. I'm not just a kid from Knowle West trying to build a future, I have some experience, I can experiment, I can be honest, and honestly, musically, I can't be touched. I'm comfortable in my own skin now, comfortable with being in the light."
