I have owned attahk for years, but have never gone further into their discography or reseached their history. Where do I start ILM'ers?

Essential next-step purchases: LIVE: HHAI, MEKANIK DESTRUKTIV KOMMANDOH, WURDAH ITAH, KOHNTARKOSZ (only if you haven't already got LIVE: HHAI), maybe 1001 DEGREES CENTIGRADE

Shameless plug--you might also want to check out Magma's reviews on Ground and Sky for various cross-validation:

What Joe said. My personal faves are Live/Hhai and Wurdah Itah. Also, if you end up becoming a superfan, check out the live Trilogie au Trianon box set from last year.

i'm going to be completely contrary and say "simples," "udu wudu" and the first one. but that's because they're the only ones that interested me enough to, uh...download. "de futura" (from "udu wudu") is the jam, as is the flying luttenbachers cover of same.

House of Blues has a concert in their archives. www.hob.com.

If you like Magma, you have to investigate the Japanese band Ruins also. They are very heavily influenced by Magma...

five years pass...

i've seen records in the store by (forget if they're 2 different bands anymore) MDK or Mekanik Destruktiv Kommandoh. i feel like i listened to one a long time ago and it was kind of like a german punk/post punk band. but then i listened to another record a few days ago and it definitely sounded zeuhl. are these bands connected in some way? are they paying homage to magma?

Hmm..haven't heard of that. You're not talking about Magma's two albums: Mekanik Kommandoh (silver logo cover; stripped-down version) and Mekanik Destruktiv Kommandoh (gold logo cover; full ensemble studio version)?

Joe, Thursday, 8 November 2007 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, i should have said not the magma albums. vander wasn't on them at all.

jaxon, Thursday, 8 November 2007 20:14 (seventeen years ago)

there was definitely at least one post-punky band called that. i don't know much else, though, so BUMP.

^^ that's one of them. the other one definitely had a zeuhl sound

jaxon, Friday, 9 November 2007 04:39 (seventeen years ago)

there was a band called Mekanik Kommando. became The Use of Ashes. neither has anything to do with Zeuhl.

one year passes...

this villalobos track sounds just like magma. completely repetitive and loopy with weird chanting on top.

I seem to remember reading that it was, maybe even on a thread here somewhere. I haven't actually heard the song it's sampled from though.
