Let's run this one up the flagpole. Throw it against the wall and see if it sticks. See how high the cookie bounces. Houston do you read?

Both bands are for boys who just discovered gothic onamism. Muse for the boys in touch with the femme side. Tool is for boys who have moved on from Radiohead.

I was at school with Muse, Chris Wolstenholme was in my science class in years 10 and 11. They're normally in the same pub as me on Xmas / New Year's Eve. Bellamy's always been a slightly awkward pretentious fool. I returned their first album after one listen because I thought it was wful.

What is gothic onanism? It sounds exciting.

'What is gothic onanism? It sounds exciting'

Unfortunately it isn't, not even the tiniest little bit. Remember Placebo?

Biggest Tool fan I know: Anorexic gay guy who spends about £150 on his sunglasses and £5 on the rest of his wardrobe, hates women, and studies music production at a shitty university.

Biggest Muse fan I know: Pseudo-bisexual indie kid who claimed to like Bob Dylan, when asked his favourite Dylan song he replied "That one about the Rolling Stones.

So Tool KO 4.

Tool is great. Muse is not.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What Dan said...again. :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, but WHAT IS Gothic onanism? I mean, onanism is cool enough, I guess. (And what's this Placebo palabum?)

Daver, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gothic onanism is precisely why I like Placebo; I know I should be embarassed about that. Ok, actually I am.

Sean, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Being embarrassed about liking Placebo? Never! :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry, but "Gothic onanism" brings to mind a scene involving Robert Smith, an inflatable Siouxie Sioux doll, some Edward Gorey books, 5 empty bottles of Zima, and waaaaay too much Ben Gay.

Daver, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gothic onanism = wallowing in your own sperm and feeling miserable. There's black nailpolish left on your penis after the record has ended. Now tell me what is Pop onanism, Rock onanism, Rockist onanism,...?

cuba libre (nathalie), Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DAVER MOTHERFUCKING POPSHOTS!!!!!!!!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tool is overrated.

Muse is underrated.

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Over/underrating a band: an impossibility.

cuba libre (nathalie), Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, Dan. Where's my Cure mix, you nut?

Daver, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pseudobisexuality = dud. Hmn, I think I'll start a thread.

matthew m., Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My black varnished, sticky fingers can't wait to respond!

Sean, Tuesday, 14 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I had to get ahold of some blank CDs. I will compile it this weekend.
