List songs that are "fake" dub here - think indie bands dropping in a dub bassline or getting a dub remix, a la Lazarus, Kowalski, Pele by Long Fin Killie, etc.

umm i don't get the boundaries, is this about indie bands doing the dub thing being branded as a 'fake dub' ?
eg Primal Screams echo dek set, or the extra dub album that came with The Dead 60s debut ?
Just about every indie band that was at some point remixed by The Orb/Adrian Sherwood/Andrew Weatherall back in the 90s, howabout that Sabres of Paradise vs James ep ?

never did manage to listen to their follow up though - just didn't seem to work second time around.

xp. I never warmed up to the second Baby Fox either: more trip, less dub. It's an all-time favorite for my weed-smokin' surround-sound freak friend, though.

xpost: i understand mark e and moonship's posts, but i thought the o.p's objective was looking for notable/liked/good tracks from the (sub)genre, not just gross generalizations about how pervaisve the technique was for a few months in the mid-90s

also one more occurred to me, that Faith Healers dub version of "Everything all at once forever" that came out on a promo 12''

Actually, I think I would add the 12" version of Grace's "She's Lost Control" on the list, even though half of the band is "real" Jamaicans there, it's still a Joy Division tune and it still sounds very new wave.

Jeez, all you really need is a copy of Metal Box/Second Edition then.

Also, the Clash's "Bankrobber"/"Robber Dub" would probably fit right in.

The first two Souled American albums, in particular "Mar'boro Man" off Flubber. The bass is fat yet dances about at a nice, patient clip.

though i don't know how "fake" they are. one from a pasty u.k. pothead and one from some guidos on long island.
