AC/DC in 2008: Black Ice and tour

Tickets for the show at the LA Forum go on sale this Saturday. I have zero opinion on Black Ice and, well, anything AC/DC has done since 1982.

However, I haven't ever seen AC/DC live before and I'm kinda wondering if this is potentially the last chance. Anyone see their last tour?

Mulvey gave it a thorough preview in his Wild Mercury Sound column:

You don't have to fork over $$$ to Wal-Mart; AC/DC is selling the new album on their site as well.

Their shows are absolute marvels. There's no such thing as an off night for AC/DC. Completely thrilling for at least two solid hours with no letup.

When are they playing in London???

Matt DC, Friday, 19 September 2008 13:24 (seventeen years ago)

Still TBC. I think I need to go to this.

i've warmed up to "rock n' roll train"

it's funny though cuz he says "runaway train" instead...i bet they wrote it and someone was like "uh dudes there was this band called soul asylum and they had this big hit in the US with a song called runaway train"...and ac/dc was probably like "soul who??"

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 19 September 2008 16:25 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard this one yet...do they go for the ol' "train as penis" metaphor that we've come to expect (and love)?

henry s, Friday, 19 September 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i guess? it's about some hot chick. sometimes i can't understand what brian says very well...

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 19 September 2008 16:37 (seventeen years ago)

AC/DC's manager: "So, right, lads, there's this US band called Soul Asylum who've already hit big with a song called "Runway Train".
Angus Young: "Soul What?"
AC/DC's manager: "Soul Asylum."
Angus Young: "What Asylum?"
AC/DC's manager: "Soul Asylum."
Angus Young: "What What?"

My Aunt got herself and me tickets for the Toronto show for her birthday! I am pretty excited. I did see them at SARStock and that was a blast..

Finefinemusic, Friday, 19 September 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

her birthday=my birthday, whups

Finefinemusic, Friday, 19 September 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for Chicago, and I'm probably gonna pick one up. It seems I see them about once every decade. I first saw them in 1988 on the 'Blow Up Your Video' tour, and then in 1996 on the 'Ballbreaker' tour. I figure it's about time to check in on them again...

Plunge Protection Team, Friday, 19 September 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

the single is pretty good too

Plunge Protection Team, Friday, 19 September 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

Oakland tickets go on sale Sunday -- there with (hells) bells on! Admittedly it's the first time I've seen them...getting a lot of crap from friends who are asking about the legalities of this, me being Australian and all. My only defense is that I always associated the Brian-era with bogans. Sad but true. I'm almost certain that I'll be taking a beer-break during 'Thunderstruck'...it was like my bogan hometown's theme song. Yeesh.

VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 20 September 2008 04:33 (seventeen years ago)

Any word yet on an opening act? I'm still not sure if I should pick up tickets.(It's a 2.5 hour drive to the show).
Maybe the opening act will help me decide.
Actually no opener might be better.

three weeks pass...

the production on this is a bit, er, 'modern'. sounds more like jet than the ac/dc of yore

lol well there's a complementary reason it sounds like jet. ;-) (heavenz!)

...

I don't know about the Walmart thing, but if this past Tuesday was THE release date, the Walmart exlusivity thing is bullshit, as I got this at Easy Street this week. (The vinyl was available 1-2 weeks prior though.) or has Walmart been carrying this since September and no one here wants to admit to buying it there?

Anyway, Black Ice is their best album since the early 80s. That's mainly because it sounds EXACTLY LIKE GOOD 80s AC/DC. It's like the previous three albums didn't exist, and this album was just the 2LP after Blow Up Your Video.
Surprisingly filler-lite... least filler since For Those About To Rock.

Releasing this in 2008 - the year of Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend - was very well timed.

Basically, Black Ice is the album designed for fans of The Darkness and Jet.
