No thread for her here. Starting one now due to some sad news:
Natalie Cole, who recently revealed she had hepatitis C, has been hospitalized as a result of side effects from her medication and a heavy promotional schedule, her representative said Friday. The Grammy-winning singer has been in a New York City hospital since Sept. 12, and is expected to remain there for at least a few days, according to publicist Maureen O'Connor of the firm Rogers & Cowan.Cole announced in July that she was suffering from hepatitis C, a liver disease spread through contact with infected blood. She said at the time that the disease was revealed during a routine examination and was likely caused by her drug use years ago.

A longtime friend posted on facebook this morning that she can't stand Natalie Cole's voice, at which point I discovered that the friend has only ever heard the glop she'd recorded from 1991 onwards. I stanned for the 70s stuff based on memory, but I'm listening to it now and it's actually even better than I'd remembered it was. "No Plans for the Future" from the second album is a killer.

I liked her last night on the Latin Grammys singing in Spanish (dueting with a video image of her dad) on a song that her father once sang

I didn't see it, but I wish she'd stop doing that.

"Miss You Like Crazy" is a jam. another time capsule song. i like how the chorus modulates to a higher key midway through.
those verses are so smooth too.
