('60s)Manfred Mann - C or D?

That's it really. Personally I think the Up The Junction soundtrack is one of the most underrated albums of the late '60s & the Soul of Mann instrumental compilation rocks. Many of my mates hate them (probably due to a certain jazz-smugness attributed to them), but their songs seem to have this strange, evocative quality I can't quite identify. Is it just me?

Do they sing that song about Mighty Quinn the eskimo? I like that song, it makes no sense. Why have I seen nothing like the Mighty Quinn? And what's the deal with him, all the people are going to jump for joy at first when he gets there, and the pigeons are going to flock to him (!?), but by the end of the song everyone is going to run from him - what did he do? I bet it's cos of those damned pigeons. I have put a lot of thought into this song, and have yet to come up with a good explanation for what the deal is with Quinn. What makes him so mighty? I'm going to name my baby Quinn, after Mighty Quinn the Eskimo.

Of course, if this isn't a Manfred Mann song, you can just ignore that whole diversion right there.

I don't like their early singles or their Dylan covers. However I've got a soft spot for "Ha! Ha! Said the Clown" and "My Name is Jack". It's been years since I saw "Up the Junction" but I remember the music being good.

They covered one of my songs once. Honestly! 'A Complete History of Sexual Jealousy'. It sounds like a cross between the Divine Comedy and Fisher Z. Perfectly awful.

Bloody hell - I thought you were joking, but I've found it...& I think that's the first time in 10 years I've heard the Fischer Z. Actually, that was the first Momus track I ever heard, as well.

Six posts, wow...They never covered any of my songs, but I love this. (The song starts at 3:00; written by Mike Hugg.)
