I've got way too many songs that I'll never find time to listen to. As an attempt to always hear "something new", I've got a playlist on my ipod that's only requirement is "number of plays is <1".
It's okay, but man, do I hear a lot of Beatles, Wilco, Fugazi, Clash, and Sun Records artists. It's strange to see who I care enough about to collect, but not ever listen to.
I was about to put my headphones on now, but didn't know if I could take another version of "Kamera" that I downloaded six years ago. So instead, I made this thread.
Who makes up the bulk of your unplayed list?

beat happening.

is there an automated way to make this unplayed playlist, or did you just do it manually in iTunes? It's a good idea!
The bulk are those bands you manage to get a lot of.. I would suspect my large Yoko Ono collection and a bunch of Bob Dylan.

I did it as a super playlist in iTunes though there may be a better way to do it.
There's also the qualification of "Artist Name MUST NOT match CONET PROJECT".

NOW PLAYING: "A Truck Driver's Prayer" by Red Sovine

CONET PROJECT
Haha. Remember when this was touted as sophisticated dinner party bckground music? I think I've listened to most of it more than once though. What a waste of precious time...

I once tried to listen to it straight through while raking leaves and had to shut it off before I strangled myself with the wind chimes.

Thanks PP, I will investigate with my iTunes at home! I rarely do anything more advanced than Playlists On The Go :(

I have an Atlantic box set of blues and r'n'b which has been mostly unplayed, but looking at it now it looks pretty good. There's a couple of Nanci Griffith albums I haven't listened to just to be completist. And some Stockhausen.

There's a lot of mild shame involved when something comes up from the Stax box set, like the only way I'm going to hear any Sam & Dave is by accident.

I have one of these, but when I moved my itunes folder to a new drive EVERYTHING lost it's # of plays, so it's not much good to me anymore. Graah.

"number of plays is < 2"?
The White Stripes come up a whole lot. I kinda went a little crazy in 2003 with the downloading.

I am blessed with a wealth of music, but that means so much is unplayed. Right now I am at 162 gigs unplayed. iTunes says that would take 130 days of consecutive listening to listen to all of it. Because it's so large, it's not dominated by any single artist. The problem is that I'm like "I should listen to that P.G. Six album that I've heard is so good" and it's like fuck it what I really want to hear is Pretzel Logic for the millionth time.

The unplayed list makes up about half the songs I have on my iTunes, actually. Of course, a lot of these are things I _have_ played, just not since I got my Mac.
Opening tracks:
"Celebrity Art Party," the Embarrassment"To Zion," Lauryn Hill "Pirate Song," The Goat That Went "Om""Test Pattern," The Thermals"Like Leila Khaled Said," The Teardrop Explodes
The last of these is the only one I'm 100% sure I've actually listened to. In general, the list looks pretty similar to my overall library, probably because I play on shuffle almost all the time.

Every once in awhile, I'll hear something that I could swear I've played before. However, maybe I was actually listening to the CD or maybe I clicked to a different song before it ended, thereby not "sealing" the song as played.

I have a bunch of playlists like "Billboard #1s" or "Billboard R&B #1s" and yet from these allegedly top-notch songs I had like 8 gigs unplayed. :( so I've been shuffling through them as I go walking around town, so that it doesn't feel like work.
I found myself deleting albums the other day just so that my unplayed count would go down :( mostly 00s indie that I can't imagine ever being bothered to play.

Listening now and asking myself -- why have I never listened to "Celebrity Art Party" before? It's great! Thank you, ILX.

Interminable grime mixtape tracks and disposable snap records. Things I think I should like but in reality get bored with.
