In honor of the reissue of Native Son on Wounded Bird.
To tell the truth, my love for the Judybats is mostly restricted to my love for side A of Native Son. But I love this a lot! The strange and insistent "Convalescing in Spain" is the best xylophone-driven pop song I know. All the vocals on this record are somehow both smart-ass and un-self-conscious at the same time. Great.

Never listened to them but the first time I saw something about them on TV, I was convinced it was a fake band. Was it a fake band?

100% real!

Thought of these guys for the first time in a long time tonight for some reason. Loved the first half of Native Son too, and much of the second album. There was a lot of stuff like this that I loved in the early 90s that just never stuck around in my collection, though. Huh.

knoxville represent. judybat factoid: their keyboard player/backup vocalist (in red coat in the 'native son' video) now runs an awesome bakery. she made our wedding cake.

The debut album is great, hated the second one. But I gotta stand up for the classic b-side, "All I Wanna Do Is Fuck Your Hair"!

First TWO albums are great. It's the THIRD one that sucks.

I just listened to this the other day. Not bad. Not a huge fan of amerindie but they're from Tennessee and I like folk rock and folk music.

Despite my claim when starting this thread that I was done with them after the first side of "Native Son," I'm re-listening to "Margot Known As Missy" right now and liking it a lot. There's something very inward-looking about it -- like, here's a song about somebody we all know here in Knoxville, you don't know her, doesn't matter.

Don't touch my soft spot 'cos I might die.

I suppose the chance of vinyl reissues of the first couple albums is pretty minimal, huh?

I wouldn't hold my breath.
