What sounds the most interesting out of this lineup?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my ulterior motive = does anyone know about Latin music??? I bet some of this stuff is roX0r but which to see?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The King = Jailhouse Rock

YO LA TENGO / EVERTON SYLVESTER -- Feedback-driven noise-rock and sweetly melodic pop & sly dub poetry.

I like the idea of YLT doing nothing but sly dub poetry. SEE! All their fans go home and cry.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, this is better:

SAW DOCTORS / GAVIN DEGRAW -- Most important Irish rock band since U2.

Wow! I'm convinced!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you can tell they only wrote "sly" because the first three letters of sylvester's name made them think of sly dunbar. fucking hacks. "dub poetry".... urk. thanks for making sure i don't go!

the last benefit concert actually looks like the worst.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah Brian "c" is so close to "k" on the keyboard you know...

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The "North By Northwest" screening followed by Sex Mob sounds good.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah Brian "c" is so close to "k" on the keyboard you know...

..which makes it that much funnier.

Brian MacDonald, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No no no....it's bluegrass, so everyone will be picking like crayyyyzeee.

Sean Carruthers, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to the Kinky, Flaming Lips, Cake one! and I think for free!

A Nairn, Wednesday, 15 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the latin music, esp the "alternative" stuff isn't worth it - it's a gringos version, latin lite. Go to the african instead with femi kuta - far better!

Queen G's netherlands, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't go to Cake unless someone payed me to throw Frank Sinatra blowup dolls or Spin Doctors bootlegs to the band. For free? Nothing is for free.

cuba libre (nathalie), Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what exactly is the matter with "dub poetry"? that's the term Linton Kwesi Johnson came up with to describe what he did, and it fits. what's the deal?

M Matos, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Goddammit, I'm going home for the summer and I'm going to miss Dr John. Tracer, go see him. Don't go see Wynton. And this is happening right by my old neighborhood, too. Grr.

matthew m., Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hakim is supposed to be a great live performer, and his recent double live album sounds good.

Did a show with Femi last year and he works hard for your money. He puts on a real performance. Def. worth checking out. I love Hassan Hakmoun's music (gnawa is trance music, where people sometimes dance for 20 hours straight) On stage, Rokia has never wowed me live but I've heard she's put on some stellar shows, guess I always miss them.

Dr. John is fun and worth checking out if you've never seen him before.

what exactly is the matter with "dub poetry"?

Nothing. I was more bemused at the idea of YLT doing it (which clearly they're not -- but you never know...).

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sunday, August 18 - 4:00pm SAW DOCTORS / GAVIN DEGRAW Most important Irish rock band since U2.

HAHA!

NNNNN SEVENTEEN! Stone walls where the grass is green! Important my ass. Didn't the drummer win the lottery or something.

Major Alfonso, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow! I'm convinced!

See, Ned? There are beautiful things to be found in Brooklyn;>

Dude, til I saw the Saw Docs a few months ago, I _did_ wonder why they had such devoted fans (though I would have thought that Black 47's fanbase had them beat by a mile). But they ARE fun, especially after a mug or two;>

Nichole Graham, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Black 47, oh dear.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not you, Ned, whoever took exception to the term

M Matos, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, understood and thanks. Now, did I settle the italics problem?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
