"There's a hole in my heart as deep as a well for that poor little boy who's stuck halfway to hell/Though we can't get him out we'll do the next best thing/We'll go on TV and sing, sing, singggg!"
― Justyn Dillingham, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
what is your point exactly?
I also say Search: Sun City. I love that song. whenever I listen to it I think about my sterling contribution to bringing freedom to South Africa by not buying Outspan oranges. which I wouldn't have bought anyway because I don't like fruit. but still. It's a great track.
Destroy: We Are The World.
also Destroy: all minor country aid songs. Like Ireland's "Show Some Concern". Or even more so, the Self Aid "Let's Make It Work" song.

"Anyone Who Had a Heart": definitely. Brilliant. "Alfie": ehhh...okay, I guess. "That's What Friends Are For": HUH?
I suppose his opinion of it is colored by the fact that it raised a lot of money for AIDS organizations, and I can admire what it did. It's no "Walk on By" though.

unless that *was* hear n aid...
band aid 2 (sonia, big fun, hazel dean...) that was quite bad.
ditto 'ferry aid'.

Destroy: Not technically eighties but that "allstar" (the only person who I can remember being on it is Kevin Costner) 'support the troops' single that came out around the time of the Gulf War (I can't recall the name of it). Lenny Kravitz's allstar "Give Peace a Chance" remake was even worse.

I'd cast my vote for "We are the World", though if I could remember more than just the chorus for "Hands Across America", that would probably be the one.

Dominique, please tell me you're kidding about the "Sending our Love Down a Well" song. I think we have a winner!
― Joe, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
No, but Northern Lights could record something called "Now Will You Stop Advocating Separatism?"
Surely not a song so much as a portal to hell..

Notwithstanding the fact that the money raised went to etc...
Otherwise, pick your least favourite Elton single where he sent the money to Aids charities.

the "we are the world 25" thing from a couple years ago renders this whole thread moot.
