The "Popist" canon?

RYM has given the users an option to create their own lists by including or excluding music by genre.

I thought it would be funny to check out what would be the result if I did the extreme anti-rockist move of exluding "rock". I also exluded jazz and classical (or else at least jazz would have dominated), and the result is this:

Obviously way too much hip-hop and R&B for my taste, but an interesting experiment.

What happens if you exclude the hip-hop, etc.?

I'm sure you'll all agree, nothing says popism like Nick Drake.

The idea of a "canon" seems contrary to the Popist philosophy.

Exactly. Shouldn't the Popist canon just be a compilation of year's end Hot 100's?

Well, my personal taste is well represented in a list that consists of only pop and pop/rock (in reality traditional song-oriented pop with a rock taste) with their belonging child genres. This set of genres will also include a lot of today's soul pop, but those acts get so many 0,5 stars by haters who haven't actually listened to the albums, so the likes of Destiny's Child and Justin Timberlake don't mess up the charts much. :)

there was this old, kinda hard-to-decipher graffiti in the dorm elevator, and i got all excited because i thought it said 'stop rockism.' Turns out it said 'stop racism.'

Btw the non hip-hop, non R&N, non soul, non dance pop canon would look like this:
http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=all-time&genre_include=1&genres=pop%2C+pop%2Frock&include_child_genres=t&include=both&limit=none&countries=

:)
