Mp3 ID3 tags Version 2 : compatible overall?

Will specifying ID3v2 tags in Mp3s cause major incompatibilities with most Mp3 players out there? Has anyone had problems playing Mp3s just because they had ID3v2 tags?

i had some boards of canada files with both tags on, and i think the v2 tags were missing the first letters, and they were overriding the other tag, and it was all a bit confusing until i went into the info and selected the other tag. can you tell i don't know too much about this stuff?

Actually, I've had to rename some ID3v2 tags recently. Though I didn't have any probs playing them on an MP3 player, I DID notice that for some reason, the new name didn't show in the LCD screen.

WinAMP (and the Linux version, X11AMP) have no problems with them.
