Xiu Xiu - Under Pressure

Greetings from Sydney Australia, i'm new to this board and like what i see...My question is Xiu Xiu and what peoples opinions of Jamie Stewart are - his version of "under pressure" featuring Michael Gira on the latest album tops the the original i think. I find with some of his work that i lose interest, but find myself grabbing evry new release just to see what he has come up with this time....your thoughts?

I find that I only like 1 or 2 songs from each album, but the ones I like I tend to REALLY like. "Sad Pony Guerilla Girl" is terrifying and beutiful (which are probably the boxes he's looking to tick most of the time, I suppose); "I Luv the Valley Oh!" is great for the same reasons. I really wish he'd concentrate on catchy stuff, though - his best moments are the poppier ones, I think. I really love the stuff I have from his older bands, namely IBOPA and Ten in the Swear Jar, much of which has been re-recorded with Xiu Xiu.

I've never heard any of the side project stuff he's done, incidentally (the thing with Larsen, the Fag Patrol thing (or was that a live album?)).

"fag patrol" is pretty much the best/worst name for an album ever.

I vary between love and hate for this cover. Gira's vocal is too straight, Stewart's too histrionic - but the latter seems more appropriate. I like the sax squeals too. It's hilariously bad or very good, depending on mood.
