"Beautiful" really is some bullshit.

Carrie Bradshaw Layfield (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:13 (sixteen years ago)

haha yeah, but it's also kind of... well, beautiful

i am the small cat (HI DERE), Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:13 (sixteen years ago)

THANK YOU for this poll

Surmounter, Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

beautiul is beautiful. shook me the first time i heard it.

"can't hold us down" is something else, but this might be "fighter" in the bag.

Surmounter, Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

"Beautiful" "The Voice Within" really is some bullshit.

DARK HORSE (AKA my vote): "Loving Me 4 Me"

David R., Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

ugh the voice within. awful.

um. infatuation is pretty rockin. "i am full blood boricua!!!"

Surmounter, Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:31 (sixteen years ago)

For me, this is "Dirrty" vs "Make Over".

i am the small cat (HI DERE), Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:32 (sixteen years ago)

"Fighter" is a pretty damn good rock song, I was in a metal band for a while that covered it and it was a lot of fun to play (we also played "Beautiful" at one point but that was a little more tongue-in-cheek).

some dude, Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

thought i would forget but

i remember

Surmounter, Thursday, 2 October 2008 15:36 (sixteen years ago)

"Fighter" ftw, although "Dirrty" is fierce and "Walk Away" is gorgeous.

btw I thought legally they had to credit the Sugababes & their writers for "Make Over" because it was such a clear "Overload" ripoff?

john mccain's illegitimate black child (musically), Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

"Make Over" became the subject of controversy in the UK when critics commented on its similarity to a 2000 Sugababes' single called "Overload". When Stripped was originally released, Aguilera and Linda Perry were listed as the song's writers. Some time later ASCAP also gave additional credits to Sugababes writers Jonathan Lipsey, Felix Howard, Cameron McVey, and Paul Simm. The link was never publicly admitted, but "Make Over" was removed from the track listing of Aguilera's subsequent DVD, Stripped Live in the UK.

"beautiful" is incredible

plus - PLUS - it's is almost the exact same song as "home sweet home" by motley crue!

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:45 (sixteen years ago)

i played "beautiful" at club poptimism about a month ago and cleared not only the dancefloor but everyone's respect for me

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:45 (sixteen years ago)

haha i remember when the 'dirrty' video came out and everyone was like "omg that's the sluttiest thing we've ever seen". quaint!

anyway wow this is really hard. the five-single run - five-video run - off this album is definitely one of the pinnacles of pop music this decade...the shape-shifting, the absolute confidence, the way they're so disparate but make total sense as an ensemble. 'dirrty' is classic club bump&grind 4eva, 'can't hold us down' is an absolute riot (the dancehall coda! LIL' KIM SEXING DUDES RAW!), 'fighter' is probably the best rock song of the decade and both 'beautiful' and 'the voice within' are beautiful. of the album tracks, 'make over' is batshit insane (yeah it rips off the melody from 'overload' but the detuned flamenco guitars and castanet madness are worthy additions), 'get mine get yours' and 'infatuation' are genuinely HOTT. "full blood boricua" indeed.

which is to say i HAVE NO IDEA and open to being convinced in various ways.

i played "beautiful" at club poptimism about a month ago and cleared not only the dancefloor but everyone's respect for me

aw if i'd been there my increased respect for you would've been enough to counter everyone else's madness! and my respect for them has suddenly plummeted

lex pretend, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

i thought this was going to be a poll about depeche mode.

tricky, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

anyway yeah i think i actually find this album genuinely empowering and i don't care how cheesy that sounds. it's a pop star at the absolute height of her powers.

lex pretend, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

xposts but you don't know who was there. will it be a random respect plummet based on educated guess?

i like 'Beautiful' but would probably never dance to it

Annoying Display Name (blueski), Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

and the patented xtina holler is such an incredible thing

lex pretend, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

haha i remember when the 'dirrty' video came out and everyone was like "omg that's the sluttiest thing we've ever seen". quaint!

what has surpassed it in sluttiness terms?

the best thing about the Dirrty video is still the "woah is that a child or a midget?" moment

Annoying Display Name (blueski), Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

i like 'Beautiful' but would probably never dance to it

but would you slowly head-bang to it?? i know i would

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:52 (sixteen years ago)

u may be giving back that extra respect u just earned there tracer. head-banging??? what is that nonsense.

lex pretend, Thursday, 2 October 2008 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

I remember Xtina on the Daily Show and Stewart seemed determined to get her to admit the whole Dirrty Xtina thing was a marketing schtick, that it wasn't really her, while she kept insisting that this was "the real her" and the bubblegum was the put-on.

I voted for Depeche Mode.

God how this album sucks ass

I know, right?, Friday, 3 October 2008 01:54 (sixteen years ago)

"Lovin Me 4 Me" which is her best song.

After The Hurricane (The Brainwasher), Friday, 3 October 2008 07:47 (sixteen years ago)

i only know the singles, and they are all vomit

billstevejim, Saturday, 4 October 2008 01:21 (sixteen years ago)

I like "Beautiful" a helluva lot more than I did in 2002. The chorus hook redeems the "Greatest Love of All" sentiment.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 4 October 2008 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:21 (sixteen years ago)

"Beautiful" really is some bullshit.

Dude hangs out with too many fat chicks. Who still won't sleep with him.

its cool bro i'm a rugby league player (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:23 (sixteen years ago)

I AM BEAUTIFUL
IN EVERY SINGLE WAY

lex pretend, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:23 (sixteen years ago)

also 'beautiful' gets extra points for being really heavily sampled on the last burial album and somehow no one really noticing or mentioning it

lex pretend, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:26 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

wow, totally otm

ILX MOD (musically), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

No votes for "Get Mine Get Yours," "Walk Away" or "Impossible"? :| The singles are like the weakest songs on this album.

After The Hurricane (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 23:06 (sixteen years ago)
