Disco (based) music that's similar to Arthur Russell/August Darnell/Prince/early Blue Nile?

I just started a thread asking for similar stuff to "inside out" by Odyssey, and it made me think about what i was looking for in music, i love disco but find alot of the content, lyrically a bit impersonal, so i thought i'd start a new one to see if anyone knows what i'm on about and can recommend some disco-y music that is a bit deeper/personal. The stuff i mentioned in the title is a rough idea of what i mean, any ideas?

I don't know what deep is. You either get something out of a song or you don't.

Chic are the obvious answer here as I said on the Odyssey thread.

Don't really know what you are looking for...if the meaning of anything is lost then what is the point of anyone recommending it?
