I imagine it's one of those "embedding disabled by request" videos. Stoopid record labels.

I saw it on MTV, yeah, back in the day. Or at least...some TV channel.

God, I had the biggest crush over that woman. I used to buy magazines with her on the cover...and whatever that show she was on with the other black girls...

She was OK as a rapper, but still no MC Lyte.
― Pillbox, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:04 (sixteen years ago)
Hahah! Good point...I haven't heard MC Lyte in a long ass time either.

I know MC Lyte is the fucking shit. I can't even find any albums of hers on 5l5k right now which is driving me insane.

You know, after listening to Cram and Paper Thin, I hear a LOT of Biz Markie circa Vapors in her flow/lyrics:

Didn't "Cram" come out a couple years before "Vapors"?

Cram was 87. Vapors was 88.
Then again, Nobody Beats the Biz might've been just as good an example, and that did come out in 87.
But really, Lyte from Brooklyn, Biz from Queens (I believe), so not suggesting a direct connection, however, their similar styles are worth noting (stories about others, singing old songs in the middle of a rhyme, the flow, etc.)
Side note, I saw a "nobody beats the Wiz" truck in Sunset Park last week, not realizing they were still in business:

There was a pretty good interview/article about her in the New York Times magazine yesterday. She sounds really together, I admire her!

haha:
In The Simpsons The First Church of Springfield under the Reverend Timothy Lovejoy runs a thrift shop where cheap clothing can be bought. Its motto is “Nobody beats the Rev.”

this song was the joint too. some great beats on this album

Yeah, SID's beats were often cool. Have to wonder how directly influenced he felt by Pete Rock.

Sunset Park, the only place where the Wiz can still stand unbeaten...

The first guest on her new talk show was Travolta. Someone tell me if there is a glass closet door on the set.
