Might as well start this one now, as in a lot of ways it is different from the 60s Nuggets ones (at least chronologically)

It has to be Dukes Of Stratosfear in this case although I love the Hoodoo Gurus one too.

Haven't heard all these, but '(I Thought) You Wanted to Know' is a great Richard Loyd song.

narlus spectre (gnarly sceptre), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:23 (sixteen years ago)

for sentimental reasons i choose the rain parade, although the hoodoo gurus track is probably the best tune here

jonty alouette (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:37 (sixteen years ago)

i do not care about garage/psych revival bands. but dukes of stratosphear.

REIGN IN FUDGE (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:50 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, me too.

Mark G, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 09:51 (sixteen years ago)

I care a lot about garage revival bands, but still haven't heard all of this. The tracks from the Lime Spiders and Times are pretty great.

This is impossible! I went for the Watermelon Men - but it could have been The Pandoras, The Bangles, Flamin' Groovies, Nashville Ramblers, Rain Parade, The Lyres or The Hoodoo Gurus on another day.

When "Help You Ann" popped up on Boston radio, I was young and isolated enough that I couldn't believe anyone could make music like that again. The song still kicks my ass.

Man this is difficult. This boxset got pretty bad reviews, but I loved this stuff when it originally came out & I still love it now. Went for the Lyres, but there were at least 7 others in competition. I seem to recall that Nashville Ramblers track, the one that I hadn't heard before the boxset, being good too.

Wandering Boy Poet, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 12:27 (sixteen years ago)

Lyres!

Jazzbo, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 12:52 (sixteen years ago)

I love this whole set. And disc 1 is probably the best of the 4. Vanishing Girl and I Want You Back are all better than any song on disc 2 or 3.

But Help You Ann is the best song in the whole box.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 8 October 2008 13:09 (sixteen years ago)

The Trains. You Are My Friend is pretty nice too.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Not loads of votes? The other discs will struggle.

Great Inmates track. Seeing it on here was a pleasant surprise; I'm not sure that it was ever even a single.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Thursday, 16 October 2008 13:56 (sixteen years ago)

There are a lot of obscure gems on these discs in fact. Surely they were extremely retro, but retro is not bad.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 16 October 2008 14:29 (sixteen years ago)

Disc 1 is the best of the 4, though. 2 is too garagey, 3 too jangly. 4 is good too but all the big ones are on 1.

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 16 October 2008 18:59 (sixteen years ago)

I went for the Lyres, but could've chosen lots. I like this load of stuff much better than the original Nuggets FWIW.

Keith, Thursday, 16 October 2008 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

Disc 3 is great, but I'll come to that.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 16 October 2008 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

We got the top 3 right!

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 16 October 2008 23:15 (sixteen years ago)

Nope. Only #2 and #3.
