The Slits

zeus, Thursday, 9 October 2008 10:16 (sixteen years ago)

David Wojnarowicz

he's remembered mostly for his painting, also played in band 3 Teens Kill 4 but what I revere is his writing. he published some notable screeds about AIDS later in his life but his early work was intense and innovative, these documentary-like first person short stories that read like overheard conversations in the seventh circle of hell. also an autobiographical essay about growing up on the streets, absolutely devastating. i would guess that Dennis Cooper was influenced by this stuff, though it mostly appeared in forgotten rags like the East Village Eye.

I've never heard this song, though. sort of like a right-on version of "we didn't start the fire."

On your head be it

Niles Caulder, Thursday, 9 October 2008 10:59 (sixteen years ago)

Wasn't part of the concept of the song that the list would actually vary in concert as the spirit moved them or as they discovered more rad womenspirations? I remember reading that somewhere and always thought it was cool.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 9 October 2008 11:44 (sixteen years ago)
